Well it arrived and all that glitters definately aint gold . None of the pics show how rough it is and how much smutz is in and around the motor . Most of , if not all of the screws and bolts heads are butchered . Decided to strip and clean it right off the bat , so now it is just basically a motor in a frame . The brakes were seized except for the front left one . Both master cylinders are shot and the rear axle was rusted into the wheel and I had to use penetrant and a drift to get it free . Someone had adjusted the chain with a hammer , so the adjusters were toast . The carbs need a full gasket/o-ring rebuild and clean . When I took the aircleaner off , they just fell right off the bike . The rubbers are a bit hard , so new ones are on order . All the bearings will have to be done , so steering and wheels , the swingarm bushes feel OK , so I might have a win there . The headlight was supposed to be cracked , apparently cracked means broken into 2 pieces . The exhaust was rusted to the collars in the ports , so one new delkevic and new studs and bolts later . I have recieved my first shipment of parts from the america`s as australia doesnt have much , but I have been able to source a second hand rear axle , crankcase breather and seat strap locally from a wrecker . Oh the fun I will have

And aswell as the rear axle being seized it seems so is the swingarm , oh the joy !

i have had the same fun as you, the bike i bought had been stood 12 years in the british weather, a swine to get the back spindle out. my rear master cylinder scrap but i managed to rescue the front one because it has the original japanese writing on the lid, [ bikes a jdm import ] all brake pistons scrap and front forks full of water. i had several goes and different attack modes to get the exhaust off and decided to leave as is and wrap the rusty pipes. at least the engine was sound when i bought it just had to do all the carbs.

The engine looks like it has had a few valve troubles and it could have been seized at some point . Full strip down happening now

A bit of cleaning today . I did all of the guards , the stainless and plastic , the airbox , cleaned the carbs and popped the rocker cover off to have a captain cook

Very happy with the looks of this . Can`t find any glitter in the oil filter and only what looks like a bit of old hard rubber/gasket material in the screen . The bottom of the sump wasn`t too bad either , with just a very slight film of old oil sludge on it that you could hardly push around . The oil in this bike was black , but still tacky , so hopefully the mains will be good .

Where is it going?
I live in the nth east of oz , townsville and it is going to the very sth east of oz , gippsland . Unfortunately there is no-one near me that knows these motors . Even chroming has to do a 400 klm trip , one way . Over the years many buisinesses have closed down and a lot of knowledge has been lost . So I have to send it down to " Pud`s four parts " to get the engine rebuilt
