Ya, take the airbox out. But it needs to go back in after the carbs are set.
It's not hard, there's a hose on the bottom, it just pulls off. There might be 2 or 3 screws or bolts holding it to the frame.
It's very important to reinstall the airbox. The slides in the carbs rely on the restriction of airflow the box creates sucking in to lift them. It's the vacuum that is created that lifts them, unlike conventional slides that get pulled up by the throttle cable.
Do not listen to anyone that even mentions air filter pods.
Keep the air intake system stock.
Boots first, then carbs, then airbox, then airfilters, then filter access door, then fuel tank, then seat.
