Good Day EMM,
Why are these carbs not on your bike permanently....?
I'm willing to pay $300 if you ship to me in SW OHIO.
Also show "proof of purchase" of carb kit and any supporting factors of work done.
Any unused parts from your rebuild kit I'll take also.
Please take no offense to my request, after all this is the "internet".
Pic displays my readiness to purchase I have a "SYNC KIT" and want a plug&play set of carbs so I can rework the originals later.
Did I notice that you are in the mid-west of the USA?
Get back with me asap!
No offense taken! I totally understand.
And yes, I’m Midwest. Though I did live in West Virginia for a while and know Ohio. It’s beautiful country out there!
Anyway…
I’m just barely getting into Motorcycles myself, I grew up around my dad who had and worked on several. I decided this year was gonna be the year I’d get my own and start the process of learning them.
I bought a 1979 CB750L off of someone who said that was running and driving before he bedded it down for a season. I knew the bike needed work, and figured it’d be a great opportunity to learn.
I suspected the carbs were the reason the bike wouldn’t start, so I got to work diagnosing what was causing the issue.
After a lot of reading and work, I rebuilt the carbs with a kit I bought off of eBay.
I filmed myself throughout the whole process of stripping them down and rebuilding them. I’d like to make a video and post it to YouTube in hopes it will spare someone the headache I went through.
The reason I’m not keeping these carbs on the bike, is because I want to eventually transition my bike to dual carbs instead of quads. With time, I want to build/modify the whole bike.
I can track down the eBay receipt for the kit for you later. For now, here are some screenshots from the videos I have.
The kit I bought came with new floats, gaskets, springs, pretty much everything, but some of the O-rings were the wrong size or missing entirely.
I got lucky because some of the OEM
O-rings were in good condition, so I reused what I could and replaced everything else.
I left the OEM jets and needles because I suspect they were a better quality than the ones that came in the kit. They looked great and only needed a thorough cleaning.
I discovered the reason these carbs weren’t working is because there was some kind of manufacturing error on the rubber diaphragm that sucks and sprays fuel. But I fixed that and it’s sucking and spraying better than ever lol
Total transparency: while I was taking them apart I accidentally broke off a tiny piece of metal that holds the clutch cable in place. I’ve repaired it, and it’s working fine now. I would’ve bought a new piece and replaced it entirely, but after many days of searching and asking, I discovered you can’t replace or buy that specific part because they’re press fit at factory.
So all in all, I am not a carb wizard and am still learning. But can assure you, the carbs are rebuilt and running. I’m sure with a fancy synch, they’ll treat you good.
I will send over the rebuilt carbs and all the extra parts from the kit for $300.
Also! I’m cleaning out the workspace and have an entire extra set of these same carbs I need to get rid of if you’re interested. I’m not sure if they work I haven’t tested them. But I’ll sell the rebuilt carbs and the other untested set to you for an extra $100.
In the picture, I was using the other carbs as reference when I put the rebuilt carbs back together. But you can see that the untested carbs have everything all there. I just don’t need um and they’re taking up space.
So $400 for both.
Or $300 for the rebuilt carbs and all the kit parts.
Let me know if you’re still interested, we can direct message address details and so on.
Thank you for your time
