I seem to have occasional starter clutch noise at attempted start.."slip and the scary clack"...only when cold.
I would think if it was the rollers/ springs this would be constant (hot or cold) or am I missing something??

1979 Dohc K model

I know of the R6 mod, which might look at down the track...is the thinking that the odd slip/clang wont harm other conponents?...

If it doesn't sound right, I would inspect it. The starter clutch is known to have its bolts back out. Tightening them with blue loctite is the answer. But I'm no expert so hopefully some more knowledgeable folks chime in soon.

Update-FWIW in other forums (e.g. even V4 Hondas with the issue) seem to indicate "cold" exacerbates the starter clutch issue....(thinking is springs shrink etc)..need to go in have a look....

Running MA2 oil, so thar shouldnt be a factor.
