Hi all, In case this is going to be useful for anybody I wanted to post my fairly low cost solution to replacing the steering stops on a GSXR 750, 2007 front end swap on a 1979 CB750 DOHC.

Having already bought and fitted the Cognito Moto stem the main problem was that the CB and GSXR steering stops are not compatible.

My solution was to simply buy the adjustable steering stops from Cognito for
$40 or £100 shipped to the UK. Part link below:

https://cognitomoto.com/products/adjustable-steering-stops-for-fork-conversion?variant=16393964353

Then it’s a simple job of cutting and grinding the tabs on the GSXR lower triple tree and then drilling through from underneath where there is already a partially threaded hole. I then just tapped the hole with a M6, 1mm pitch and it works a treat.

A few photos to show the finished work.

Hi mate,

Just wondered if you wouldn't mind helping me out with my front end swap on a 76 750F SOHC? Am i right in saying that I need forks, calipers, front wheels and discs and the cognito moto kit?

I'm also in England so also wondered where you sourced the forks and calipers from? Any help very much appreciated 👍

Hi, for me I swapped out my 1979 CB750 front end (forks, wheels, caliper, disc etc) for a GSXR front end.

I used the Cognito Moto stem, their steering stops (cheap as chips and I removed the GSXR stops and swapped them).

I didn’t use the GSXR wheel as it looks like a sports bike wheel and I wanted a spoked one so invested in getting that made in the UK by BSpoke Wheels Ltd (really good company). The company are experienced in building spoked wheels for the GSXR and we discussed what discs etc were being used (I used the GSXR discs and callipers).

Hope that helps.

Sorry, meant to say…forks and callipers were eBay/Facebook marketplace. It took a while to get the right ones at the right price.

Reading, give me 10 years to get the bike sorted and i'll pop up and see you 😂

It’s a great place to learn. I knew nothing before taking on this project. Fully seized engine, bike in cardboard boxes. Ended up being a lot of fun and now working on build no 2 - a 1980 CB900 FA.

Enjoy yourself.
