For Sale - Rings for DOHC 750s

Hey, everybody. Selling four sets of rings for DOHC 750s (1979-1982). Bought with the expectation they were needed by in the end they weren't. Ad on ebay...

    Clutch housing rattle

Good evening, all. I've never done a clutch rebuild so I'm in new waters. While warning up the bike, I hear a rattle from the clutch housing. When I pull the clutch lever in it goes away. Is this a symptom of weak/worn springs?

    What type of metal...

What type of metal is the engine and engine covers (timing cover) of the 79-81 DOHC engine? I have a crack in my timing cover and m thinking of trying to close it with brazing rods.

    Whine in engine

Hey, everybody, hope you're holidays were good. I took the 750 out today and noticed a whine in the engine that picks up with engine revs. I may have narrowed it down to the valve train, but I'm not yet certain. Anybody else experience this? I took a video and can upload it to rumble if...

    Clutch kits for DOHC

I'm getting clutch slip at higher RPMs, especially downshifting for acceleration. I see cyclex has a kit for $250 with a new lifter plate, steel discs and fiber discs, bolts, springs, and seals. I haven't opened mine up so I don't know if my steel discs are in good or bad shape, nor the...

    Shifting difficult after hard ride

Good afternoon, all. I have noticed after the last two hard rides I took, it was harder to get into first and neutral. If I don't ride the bike hard, the downshifting is easier. The oil I put in it is 10w-40 for wet clutches. But I'm questioning if I need a different oil. I'm thinking of...

    Aftermarket speedometer recommendations

Good evening, all. Looking for recommendations on speedometers that are 2240:60 and not pure garbage. There are tons out there, a lot of copies of others, but nothing that stands out as quality.

    Normal operating temp for DOHCs?

I got back from a ride today and noticed the chain noise I've had recently is gone. On a whim, I hit the cylinders with my laser temp gun and noticed a 200° reading from a point on cylinder #4. But moving the laser around found 180°is. I know getting the temp from the cylinders is best...

    Looks like a plug...

Hey, everybody. Hope your weekends are going well. I found two oil leaks. One from the valve cover that I should be able to fix with a JB-weld gasket sealer. The other is from what looks like a plug at the front can chain tensioner. Is that part number 19 in the diagram?

    Rotor puller

Anybody find a 17mm bolt that works as a rotor puller? Ace hardware and home Depot don't have that size

    Ignition system

My bike seems to have a misfire after being warmed up. The manual is a little confusing to me, because my electrical knowledge is not great. The resistance of plug caps, ignition wires, coils all turns out fine. What is the best way to test the spark units?

    Charging system

I tested my charging system a little bit last night and this morning, and I'm curious what the experts' thoughts are. Yellow to yellow wire testing on the stator while running is 10 volts at 3000 RPM, for a total of 30 volts at 3000 RPM. At 3000 RPM the bike voltage is 13 volts. It doesn't...

Tach cable gasket on cylinder head cover

Hey, everybody. Hope your weekends are going well. After doing the valve adjustments I replaced the cylinder head gasket. Now I've developed a leak from between the cylinder head and tach cable insert. The oil does not come from the cable, it appears to be the gasket between the cylinder head...

Learn me about exhaust changes and jetting!

Ok, there is definitely going to be a lot discussed here (depending on who replies). I've had many bikes over the years and I'm beginning to challenge the assumptions I've had about rejetting a carb due to changing the exhaust. Let's get after it. It has always been known to me that a change...

    Valve shim size

Good evening, everybody. I'm getting ready to do a valve job on my DOHC 750 and cannot find the correct size shims. I don't mean thickness, I know those are supposed to change, but what is the diameter of the shims. I've seen 29mm -- is that right? Can't find the info in the service manual...

    Push Button Switches Experience

Hey, everybody. I've seen push button switches (2 front, or 2 front 1 rear) on a couple sites. Amazon also sells a cheaper version. I'm thinking about snagging a couple to replace my control switches that look pretty beat up. Does anybody have experience with these switches? Durability...

Revs to 10k in neutral, but sputters at 5k under load

Hey, everybody. Happy (a day early) 4th! I have a 1981 cb750k with a stock set up; stock carbs, air box, and filter. The bike revs up to 10k in neutral but when riding it, the revs won't get past 5k. I do not have a vacuum leak at the carb stabilizers on the engine side and the rubber...

    Carb T-Junction (for air?) on 1981 CB750K

Hey, everybody. Bought a 1981 CB750K a couple days ago. Cleaned the carb bowls, jets, fuel passages, etc., it also has the stock air box (I'm really second guessing air pods given the nightmares I've read on this forum) and the fuel diaphragm removed from the carb (it is gravity fed from the...
