So I tore apart my dohc 1981 cb750C down to the pistons to replace rings. Is there a procedure to timing the cams and crankshaft or do you just follow the original service manual in reverse:

-Make sure your pickup coil timing marks are set at the “ T” for the 1 and 4 pistons.
-set your exhaust and intake camshafts so the number 1 piston cams are both facing the spark plug's.
-attach your intake and exhaust camshaft sprockets to the chain making sure the cams for the number 1 cylinder are both still facing the spark plugs.

And that’s it?? Because I don’t see any timing marks on the sprockets or chains for timing like a car would be. Please help me out if you know what I’m talking about and asking. Thanks in advance.

Yeah there are some really faint almost paint marker type lines, but the original service manual mentions nothing of those to re-set the cam shafts. That’s why I’m wondering if you just reverse the disassembly steps to re-time the cams? I’m honestly surprised more people haven’t jumped in on this thread yet because the search bar took me nowhere.

I just looked at the factory manual for my '79 DOHC bike. According to the book there are punch marks on the sprockets that you line up and the cam is located to the sprocket by the position of the mounting bolts.

Do you know what section that’s in so I can reference it in my book? Thanks a lot by the way!

Just to be sure, is this the manual you have?
