New to me 1981 cb900f. No spark so checking everything . Looking inside starter clutch/ignition cover. I found lots of aluminum and magnetic metal at bottom of cover. Starter clutch looks good and works fine. Also no meal at all in drained engine oil. Any ideas on what failed? Thank you

Also looks like no damage at all to ignition or starter clutch or inside cover

hard to tell without pulling it apart. if you really want to know, you are probably going to have to tear it down and split the cases.

If the material is in the oil, you can send a sample to Blackstone labs. They report back to you about the metals in your oil.
