I ended up getting a 1983 CB650.. It's been modified already and has gotten work recently... About 8 months ago it ran for about 2 months and has been sitting for 6 months... I have a receipt from mechanic that totaled close to 1300 dollars.. I charged the battery and seems good, but it won't start... I've never worked on motorcycles... I know I'm in the wrong forum but I can't register for the 650 forums, don't understand what's up with that..

Did you drain the fuel tank and carbs when it sat idle.....
Maybe gummed up carbs??..

When you say wont start it still turns over/cranks??

No I don't think he drained it before letting it sit... The guy said he knew little about bikes and I'm on the same boat.. I barely learned understood how to work the petcock.. It does turn over.. I believe there's no fuel getting in..

How mechanically savvy are you in general? Got prior experience working on old cars at all?

Your basic diagnosis of any no-start condition, on any engine, is FACTS. Fuel - Air - Compression - Timing - Spark. Not necessarily in that order but any internal combustion gasoline engine requires all five to run.

Is this a model with a vacuum petcock (fuel tap).*.?
*3 lines going from the fuel tap

If so the fix may be simple...
