how get rid of pits in alternator cover

How can i get rid of the pits in the alternator cover ?

Body filler alot of fine sanding paint with bright silver paint then clearcoat.

welding is not an option ?

It would be hard to weld then grind and polish and have it all match. The filler probably won't perfectly match the base metal. How deep are the pits? Maybe getting one on eBay would be easiest?
