the sohc750's up until 1978 had kickstart. Altho I've never paid that much attention to the dohc 750's (1979 and up) I'm pretty sure they don't have kickstart....

It is normal for the oil to drain down into the sump when the bike sits. Its gravity. The oil tank is higher than the sump. You should always check the oil after the bike is well warmed up or you will think your oil is low and overfill. Have had many discussions about this on another well...

"Was cranking in neutral and the ignition just kept trying." your bike not starting has nothing to do with your clutch cable. You don't even need a clutch cable to start it in nuetral.... since there is no way for anyone here to know exactly what all you had disconnected, kinda hard to...

If its a starter its very easily removed and replaced...you can do it!!!! Btw, to help you understand the wiring of your bike, check out my link here. Turn off all systems but the starter system in the diagram to see better how your starter system is wired...

supposed to use a valve spring compressor to compress the spring and remove the 2 keepers, then slide everything out....but lacking a compressor you can go old school and just use a socket on top of the spring and while holding it in place, strike it with a mallet and the keepers will fall out...

and...As far as it not firing up, going to need more information. Did you buy it non running?, sitting up a long time?, or seller started it and let you here it run or you,ve had it running? If sitting up awhile, prolly going to have to start by cleaning the carbs, draining all gas and...

However...you can upgrade your coils to DOHC or aftermarket such as dyna coils if you want removeable/replaceable plug wires.

I just listed the ones at CB750supply.com because they seem to be sponsoring this forum with monthly giveaways etc. They are only $1.76 ea. And I agree dirtdigger, I always use new ones no matter what...not worth the trouble to tear back down just to save a nickle (pun intended)....but I do...

CB750supply.... (cylinder head nut covers)...we refer to them as nickles tho cause thats about how big they are. New ones should have come in gasket kit. Definitely replace them if dried out/ cracked or you will have leaks. I use a little tad of 3 bond to seal them (same page of link below)...
