    77 stock needle clip position

I guess it was emissions rules and they didn't want anybody messing with carbs (well, that worked!). As far as I can find out here, the K8 here had a different PD carb and needles were fixed, but the PD41s on K7s have five grooves.

    77 stock needle clip position

Appreciate your detailed reply. Perhaps I am being a little impatient; I will raise it one slot only and try again. I guess I am a little worried about being too lean and possibly causing damage, but I wasn't aware that the plug colour is less reliable at lower throttle openings. Thanks again.

    77 stock needle clip position

I might be able to answer my question now ... found an old set of identical carbs with the same as my original main jets too, in a bin and checked the clip - also in the top position (#1). I think these PD41As with 115 mains were used only in K7s (could be wrong though) so I'll assume that's...

    77 stock needle clip position

Thanks for your reply. My needles are F2051E, so perhaps different. Can you tell me where you found the -1? And does that mean one from the top?

    77 stock needle clip position

Hi gurus. I have a 77 police model - CB750P7. The carbs are PD41As and the stock main jet size was 115. Can anybody tell me where the needle clip should be set for stock please? Nothing in the manuals is conclusive. I'm certain the carbs had never been apart until I rebuilt them and the clips...

    Friction disc grooves

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, the other discs with changed grooves are the correct type (ie not B). It makes sense that the grooves go the same way for sure. Looks like it must be an improvement, or certainly no worse, as these guys have been selling them for a while with no apparent problems.

    Friction disc grooves

I've got a new set of discs to install (ex-UK) and see some differences to what I removed. The outer disc (B?) has the angled grooves and that is the same as my original and is what the manual shows. However the other six discs also have the angled grooves whereas the originals have the straight...

What sort of clutch mod is this?

Thanks; that makes sense now and I've found a schematic showing it. I should have realised though - this CB750P7 police model is a real hybrid and is a mix of K7/F2 parts. They have an essentially K7 engine but different carb jetting. Also has F front brakes and some other bits. Now I know it...

What sort of clutch mod is this?

The clutch in my 78 police model does not match any that I can find in any manual. It has seven friction plates and six drive plates. All good so far, but one of the metal plates (third from inner) is made of two riveted together with some other material in between. It is 5mm thick. See photo...

Cylinder and head fin rubber inserts

Sounds like I should chase up some more then. Thanks for your reply.

Cylinder and head fin rubber inserts

My engine currently undergoing rebuild has most of these rubber inserts missing. I looked at the cost of replacements and after I picked myself up off the floor, decided not to worry about them. However I'm now curious why they are there - was it to stop some vibration that might ultimately...

Wiseco 836 kit - head gasket dilemma

Thanks hotdog; lots of good stuff in there. As for my question, the answer in that thread seems to be the opposite: don't worry about the knock pins and rubbers. So now I'm less sure. Might toss a coin.

Wiseco 836 kit - head gasket dilemma

I can possibly answer my own question now from an old post on another forum. The K4 to K8 and F engines had a mod to fit those dowels and rubber seals to prevent oil leaks. Someone who seems to be a guru says definitely don't leave the seals out but enlarge the holes in the Wiseco gasket to...

Wiseco 836 kit - head gasket dilemma

First post for some time but I am now back to putting my K7 engine together. It has a Wiseco 836ccc kit and I have a question regarding the head gasket and the existing oil seals for the oil return from the head. There are eight of these seals which are fitted to steel tubes (the manual calls...

Removing float valve seat on a K7 carb

Hi. I've got a K7 with Keihin PD41 carbs. The float valves are all leaking very slightly, but it's not from the valve seat, it's around the outside of the valve where it fits into the body. I've taken the carbs off and can see a slight weep around the outside. I can't see replacement assemblies...

    Crankcase bolt torque

Thanks dirtdigger. You seem to be something of a guru on this forum - much appreciated, again.

    Crankcase bolt torque

I'm about to put the cases from my K7 engine back together but can't find the torque for the smaller bolts. The manual shows the ten larger bolts that straddle the crank at 16.6-18.1 ft-lbs, but there is nothing stated for the other, smaller lower and upper case bolts. Can anybody advise please? g

Good one, thanks dirtdigger. Yes, thinking too deeply can be a problem sometimes. Cheers

    Crank bearing size question

Back again. I measured the clearances with plastigauge and they are fine. The crank is also showing no wear but since a couple of shells had some marking I have obtained a complete set of new shells the same size as original. Just a question on installation: the manual states that the top of...

    Crank bearing size question

Thanks for your reply Dirtdigger. I'll try to get a decent micrometer and/or plastigauge then, just to be sure. Cheers for that.

Hi again. Is anybody able to confirm I have these crank journal sizes right please?

    Crank bearing size question

Hi. I am replacing the crank main bearings in a K7. They aren't badly worn but while it's apart I figure it can't hurt. I have not measured anything so was just going to replace with original sizes. Is that a reasonable thing to do? Can someone also confirm if I have interpreted the manual...

    Wiseco 836 kit questions

Thanks dirtdigger. This is a street bike and I'm not looking for much more performance; it's mostly because I can't find first (or any) over-size Honda parts. So I would prefer not to spend more on a cam. The port work and carb mods won't be a problem. I suppose a standard exhaust is also going...

    Wiseco 836 kit questions

Hi. I'm looking at fitting Wiseco pistons to turn my K7 into an 836. With the extra ponies and higher compression, should I be upgrading the head studs, or at least renewing the originals? Also, I have #115 main jets - do you think these will need to be larger and are there any other changes...

What usually needs doing in an engine rebuild...apart from the obvious

Thanks again. Understand what you are saying about the shafts. The engine paint is an aluminium colour and is flaking off everywhere. I thought getting it back to bare metal with a vapour blast etc might be the way to go.

What usually needs doing in an engine rebuild...apart from the obvious

Thanks dirtdigger. Some good points there; much appreciated. I have the Honda shop manual. Regarding your comment on the rocker shafts likely being worn, is that normal for a bike with that mileage? And are you saying that there are no NOS or aftermarket shafts available, hence I may need used...
