My engine currently undergoing rebuild has most of these rubber inserts missing. I looked at the cost of replacements and after I picked myself up off the floor, decided not to worry about them. However I'm now curious why they are there - was it to stop some vibration that might ultimately cause fin cracking or some other reason? Any reason why I shouldn't leave them off?
Thanks

Like said, they stop a tinny reverb from the fins ringing. Not necessary at all though to have them, the difference not much. The later DOHCs left them off after the early ones had them.
