I've got a burnt rotor with less than 600 miles on it. I'm sending it back under warranty and the rep advised me to check the crank and make sure it's true and doesn't have any play in it. Has anyone had a rotor fail due to this? I'm thinking I'd rather see if the replacement fails before taking the engine apart. Wouldn't there be other symptoms of the crank was causing this?

I've heard tales of epoxy from winding the rotor in the bore of the rotor that caused the rotor to wobble and bang on other parts. Cover not bolted on right could do this. A bad burr in the bore of the rotor too. Good reasons to inspect the bore of the rotor before installing.

Edit......you shouldn't have to take the engine apart to check for wobble and play. Turn the engine and look for a wobble on the end of the crankshaft, a dial gauge for accuracy.
