You will need to put it back in. It is a vent for the carbs as mrtwowheel mentioned.

Hello, rebuilt carbs in 81 750K did off bike leak test. no leaks. Installed carbs gas poured form top of #2 carb while cranking and once started. Took off checked. no leaks off bike. Installed and still pours from top of #2 carb while cranking and running. Is there a suction while running. I thought just gravity feed.

81 750k bike is running lean. Which way do I turn the piglet screw. It is backed out 1.5 turns and rpm’s hangs

Did you try backing off the idle screw between 2nd and 3rd carb? Also are the throttle cables adjusted properly?
