which carbs are better

I have two sets of carbs to choose from, one off of a 76 750f and one from a 77 750k. Which ones should i use? I'm using the 77 750k engine.

Use the 77 carbs. Are your 76 round top carbs?

The later carbs are a little better then the earlier ones.

then whats the difference between older ones on a sohc and newer ones on say an 81?

They are way different and not interchangable. The old ones just have a slide and needle that is the throttle. The new ones have a throttle plate and a vacuum operated slide and needle and are hard to tune.
