This ‘81 was my first street bike. Bought it over 33 years ago. It is not restored, just maintained, evolved, and detailed every few years. The only part that has been painted is the front fender, which was 33 years ago, otherwise it is all original.
The first fairing was a Shoei FM-1 bought new in ’88.
By the time I knew about European sport controls kits I couldn’t find them here. Called a dismantler in New Zealand about 23 years ago and they sent me their “normal” parts (still amazes me how the U.S. bikes were set up).
Replaced the Shoei with the Hondaline Sport Fairing around 2000, I think. Found it mounted on a pretty ratty ‘80 In Duluth, MN, but the fairing was as amazing as you see it now.
That leads to the non-Honda parts: Mirrors were not with the fairing. These are spares from a ‘93 Ducati 750SS I had.
In the photos where the bike is fitted with the factory exhaust, it also has 900F shocks mounted. They are much too stiff for my liking. They are now packed away, replaced by period correct Konis, which are significantly more compliant. The exhaust, which is extremely nice but not perfect, is now mothballed and has been replaced recently by the stunning stainless steel Ripple Rock Racers/Hindle system. If you aren’t familiar with them, I suggest you take a little time and look them up. Worth every penny.
You may have noticed the tires sidewalls. They are Continental Classic Attack radials. They are also worth every penny. I hope they continue to build them.
