Still cranked slow with all spark plugs removed. Pulled starter to make certain it was working properly and found plenty of torque. Filled cylinders with penetrating oil and let it sit for a few weeks periodically turning motor over with the nut on the alternator/rotor. In the beginning I was...
I bought a 74 CB750 approx 1 year ago. Bike didn’t run when I bought it but would turn over using kick starter. Previous owner said engine ran before bike was parked 10 years ago. Bike has compression 120-150psi, spark, fuel and timing is correct. Good starter and new battery. Damn thing should...
Thanks dirtdigger. Battery is new and reads good voltage. Starter checks out ok on bench but not sure about performance under load. Today I disconnected the starter solinoid and applied 12 volts directly to starter. Same result turns over very slow. I hate to throw money at the problem but think...
1974 cb750 bought last summer fully disassembled. Engine was complete but valve cover and side covers were removed. I now have the bike reassembled, new battery. Compression checks out on all cylinders 120 psi. Engine turns over very slow and won’t start. Starter Solonoid is new and properly...
Great idea, I will try that next. Is it ok to spin the crank with the starter without any oil circulating? Or is it sufficient to add a bit of oil in each cylinder before turning it over. Sorry for all the questions but obviously this isn’t my day job. Thanks again.
Thanks AMC, actually I haven’t tried using the electric starter, only the Kickstarter. Since the motor is removed from the frame, I didn’t know that’s an option. What is the procedure- positive battery post to starter and negative battery to engine case?
I have been working on a 74 Cb750 k for several months and am ready to start on the motor. The bike was dis-assembled when I bought it but the previous owner said the motor had been “gone through” before he bought it but no other history. The gaskets appear to be new and the motor is clean like...
Thanks for the information. I thought I read somewhere that hose clamps won’t seal because of the oil pressure? Also is there a recommended ID for the oil lines?
Building 74 CB750. I have oil line fittings but no oil lines attached. Going to have local hydraulic shop put hoses on fittings. I measured between oil tank and engine but would like to confirm stock lengths for each oil line. If anyone has oil lines removed and is willing to send me...
I have been working on a 74 CB750 and have decided to take the oil fittings to a local hydraulic service provider to refit new oil lines. The bike came with the motor and oil tank fittings but no oil lines. I can measure the distance between the fittings, but would like to know what the stock...
I recently purchased a 4 into 1 exhaust for my 750 K4. The outside diameter where the muffler attached is 65mm. So far the largest diameter slip on muffler I have found is 54-55mm. Is this a common problem, and is the best fix a short reducer pipe or are there other options? Thanks.
Ok thanks. I may have discovered the problem or at least some good news. Today I removed the clutch cover. As soon as I began loosening the bolts, the kick start snapped back to the top. Because I am waiting for clutch springs I didn't bother with installing the gasket. Apparently that resulted...
Thanks. The kickstarter is actually hard to move in both directions. Manually returning the lever feels like something is binding. Any ideas what may be causing binding that prevents return spring from working?
Here is my situation. Recently purchase a 1973 Honda CB750 that the previous owner was restoring but lost interest. When I bought the bike the motor was removed and with the exception of a rolling frame, most parts were in boxes. I now have the motor in the frame and am planning to get it...
I couldn't agree more. For some reason my computer would not upload from my picture library. This should help. The holes I'm talking about should be clear in these photos. I'm talking about the 4 vertical bolt holes that go through the case, not the motor mounts through the frame. I'm still...
Can someone please tell me what replacement bolts I need to purchase to replace the three missing bolts on the rear case and one missing bolt on right front of my 1973 cb750. Ictures attached. Thanks much.
Thanks, I wondered what that was (antidive). Forks are 37mm so must have come from a late 80's Honda hurricane 600. Found similar looking forks and triple clamps on eBay. Any idea if that swap would have required any machine work or would it be a direct bolt on?
