I'd like to thank all the members of the group that helped me get this ole CB up and running, and running well at that!..The sharing of your knowledge is greatly appreciated. Could not have brought the bike this far without your help! Had the bike out today....it's February here in the NE and...

Well, I read the instructions AGAIN, and there was a mention of the "valves"........which I did not understand since I did not look closely at those little plastic things....they looked like "t's" to me .........oh, well.......I guess I'd better learn to read more carefully in the future!

Carb sync finished. The damper" valves in the gauge hoses made the job A LOT EASIER! Saw then in the box that the gauges came in, had n o idea what they were for. The were were mentioned in the instructions in a very obtuse sort of way. The little buggers look like this: Here is a video of the...

Using $65 eBay gauges.....no damper on the gauges themselves......BUT they came with these little plastic valves.....NOW I KNOW what they are for! The instructions that came with the gauges never mentioned them! Back to work today. But even as of yesterday that nasty clanging noise at idle...

Got the gauges, working on the snyc. First problem is the needles of the gauges bounce so wildly through they are almost impossible to read. I used my iPhone in slo mo video mode to try and see what was going on. I'm making some progress I think. That nasty rattling at idle seems to be...

Roger that........the temp on the cylinders is still not as close as I would like. I'm assuming that has to do with carb sync.

You guys know how I have been whining and bitching on how bad the bike was running, right. So, as I think I told ya, I ordered new coils and plug wires. I had already put on new plug caps and new plugs (which were duly set to the proper gap) a while ago, so it was not necessary to buy new ones...

    Confused about Tire Selection

I ended up with the Metzler Lasertechs, running on spoked wheels with tubes. I installed them back in September, and have had no problems so far.....NOTE I have not ridden more than 50 miles and no more than 80 MPH, but so far so good!..BTW.......I have no plans top go much faster. I gave up...

Forks are off, and I've begun to get them to look presentable again. Probably my favorite part of a build. I also drained the old oil, flushed with new oil and then filled them with ATF as the Chilton's calls for. I did not pull them apart any further nor did I change the seals. If it ain't...

DD, thanks as always......as I said I'm thinking its a carb issue, probably beyond my skill set to fix. So, for now during the cod months I'll go back to doing the simple things I can do check timing, adjust valves, change fork oil etc. and make the bike look the way I want and in the Spring I...

Well, well........it was warm today (55 degrees which is warm for December in NY) I did not put the tank on but hooked up my DIY test bottle to warm up the engine. I worked as fast as I could to do the compression test while the motor was still warm......and the results are........... 150 -...

DD I will give it another shot with the engine warm. But, at least for now, during the winter months, I feel more comfortable spending more time cleaning , polishing, touching up paint and so on because I'm at least somewhat confident that the motor is OK. I also used needle nose pliers to...

YUa know I never considered that. When I Googled "how to do a compression test" I got a Popular Mechanics article...( I trust those guys) and they said 1 Tbs......never thought that they were talking about a typical AUTOMOBILE engine and an MC would be less.....:)

Thanks Dirt, as always. Here's a question unrelated to carbs and motor health, hopefully avoiding any further rude remarks by a self proclaimed "guru". I want to clean and polish the valve cover gasket. Is there room to remove it without pulling the engine. It would be nice to know before I...
