adapter Several auto filters will work. YOu have to make or buy the adapter. I've seen em on ebay. I bought the Honda threaded oem part (forget its name) modified it and use it. If you need specifics let me know.

The gas cap vent is stopped up. Start there.

The idle problem. Sound like one or more carbs is not getting enough fuel and the engine idles high until fuel reaches the starving carb. Or could be cable related.
