    Rear axle nut mm - 1980 f

Awesome! Thank you so much. Never seen those before. I felt 6 sided socket with a breaker bar may be best for these. Imagine it looks similar to some of the dive videos of the titanic remains at this point. Lol how well do those grip?

    Rear axle nut mm - 1980 f

Can someone help me out with the rear axle castle nut size for a 1980 cb750f? I've looked at the FSM and all I see are torque specs. I've searched for two days on forums and Google. I've seen some references for 26mm and 27mm for varying years/models. I took my untrustworthy HF calipers to it...

What is in my gas tank?

I tried that. I must live in a bad place. Four radiator shops all referred me to a fifth. I called the fifth and he won't touch a tank with a previous liner. Said he's had too many he couldn't get all the way out with his processes and even MEK, which he suggested I try again.

What is in my gas tank?

No more to come. Lol I messed with this thing for weeks. Pressure washers. MEK, acetone, chains, etc. apparently I had a failed liner in the tank, along with major dents and rust. Went looking for a different tank and ended up with a different bike! Haha. Bought an 80 cb750f frame and two tanks...

Very low compression - non running

Another update. Carbs are definitely leaking around fuel rail o rings. New ones on the way. I've run it and done a warm compression test. My numbers: Cyl1 - 110 psi Cyl2 - 130 psi Cyl3 - 130 psi Cyl4 - 130 psi I'm not rounding. No joke. Each was dead on a hash mark. So I realize I'm on the low...

Carb float bowl drain hose replacement

Thanks!! Appreciate it. And the level thing wasn't for all the time. Someone posted on some forum (don't recall either) that you can attach clear tubing and turn them up to the tank; support them somehow; turn on Petcock and unscrew the drains; this will let you see the level of fuel that...

Carb float bowl drain hose replacement

Can someone tell me what hose to get for the bowl drains? I don't know which ones will be fuel/heat safe. I've seen one post talking about windshield washer hose and another saying to use clear to check levels easy. Any input appreciated. Thanks in advance! Vb42a - 1980 cb750c

Very low compression - non running

Well here's an idea. Does anyone know how much fuel this bike should use at idle? I can't find anything on it. I did find where someone was sync'ing the carbs with a manometer and said the fuel in the float bowls should be enough to sync, but they hooked up an aux tank in case. I drained my aux...

Oil leak from front of 1980 cb750 bobber

That I couldn't tell you. Sorry. Make sure you check the oil level before you leave though. Best I can tell is that with it removed would be the same as leaving it loose. Which, in turn, would try and tighten the cam chain constantly possibly wearing something in that internal mechanism out...

Oil leak from front of 1980 cb750 bobber

That "valve" you speak of should have a bolt and nut in it. That is your front cam Chaim tensioner adjustment. Do a search for "adjust can chain dohc" for a video description. Is there anything in the hole? (The top most threaded one at 11 o'clock , not the blanking one straight forward) when...

Very low compression - non running

Didn't want to edit the post again, so here is a little more info. I pulled the dipstick and smells like oil. I pulled the plug from cylinder one and it is not wet. Plug pics : https://www.dropbox.com/s/7wdzgncc7x9acd6/Cyl%201%20plug%20a.jpg?dl=0...

Well that's terrible news about compression and great news about the carbs. We shall see. I've just done a bit more fiddling with it and here is the vid. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rfrd5nxesyakozv/Video%20Apr%2025%2C%206%2015%2018%20PM.mov?dl=0 Several things to note. Very low compression - non running

Haven't done another test yet, but wanted to update. Put cbr600 coils, new 7mm plug wires, new ngk boots, changed oil and filter, adjusted valve clearances (all between .004"-.005" well, one comes up a few turns at .006"), new carb intake insulators and mounted rebuilt carbs. Hooked up battery...

"New" bike owner looking for guidance on my CB750

Also check the charge on your battery. If you fired it up but didn't ride it and depending on how long it "ran"; I've heard these bikes don't charge until you're over a certain rpm. Also, if you rewired make sure it's correctly wired to not just start but, to also charge. If not that, turn the...

What is in my gas tank?

Just an update. I put a gal of acetone in and sloshed it around for about four hours. It stripped most of the old junk out. I then took it to the car wash and pressure sprayed it with soap and then rinsed. Brought it home and filled it with oxy clean and water and let it sit several hours. Today...

    Which carb kit?

Hi Noyloj! I'm new to this as well and definitely not an authority on any of it. But, I've read a lot of forums and gained a lot of insight from other members. You can look at the side of the carb for the model. If stock, it should be a vb42a. Verify that first. If that's what you have, kits...

What is in my gas tank?

Just as the title says. At first I thought it was all rust. Seeing as I had gas seeping out the bottom of both bottom "lips" from what turned out to be pinholes when I stripped it to metal. So, I let the tank soak in Metal Rescue a few days rotating as I went. The MR came out looking okay with a...

Very low compression - non running

Thanks for clearing up that what I'm doing is fine. The battery I'm using isn't hooked up in the truck. I've got a dual battery system and haven't connected this one yet. It's just sitting there. I'll update this thread again when I've done the test next time.

Very low compression - non running

Wow! Thanks for the response! Yes, I suspect it's crap as it did come from HF. It's going back soon. I am mostly through the carbs and I've ordered new insulators/boots. I'm going to get it running and borrow a good compression tester from a local mechanic friend to check again at that time. So...
