This question is like, what's the best oil? Helmet debates and the like... In most eyes, older is simply more desirable. SOHC is easier to customize but it was replaced by better, newer technology by Honda with a superior bike... I prefer the DOHC...

I think "entry level" or "starter bike" today are bogus terms and used in too much of an egotistical way... everyone thinks bigger is better and they just have one macho mindset... Their wives and girlfriends ride 750s... lol... an older classic CB or 750 four is far more bike than a Shadow of...

Welcome... got a very classic bike. Ride it for a while before you modify anything. See what you have, get to know it, then decide later...

That 750 is a nice bike... I'd take that any day ... Let me know if you decide to part with it, I have room for another...

Too bad... buy nice ones on Ebay, prices vary and get the best buy ya can... or buy sort of dingy cheap ones and make sure they have the parts you need. Then combine them using JB weld to make a good one...

JB weld works great for repairing side panels on the inside... keep those in good repair, they are expensive to replace...

I don't, no worries... You are a true mechanic, and you prob like to experiment . I'd ask for your advice anytime but I like stock and restoration more than chopping, cafe'in, supin, etc... I'm not gonna race anything at my age, lol...

You have stated a lot of opinion... and I am not disagreeing with your opinions entirely either... Honda does do this... I have a healthy respect for their products, manufacturing, quality and service. Lots of 35 year old Honda motorcycles out there running strong... With regards to the OP...

X3... these are from Honda and correct... Clymers is a separate company and the are known for having many, many errors in them... That's where I disagree with Dave unless just different refers to being accurate or inaccurate. ..
