    Ultrasonic carb cleaning

That looks like corrosion on the aluminum, you will need to buff or glass bead that to remove it as the ultrasonic wont touch it to much. Try a wire or scotch bright pad on a hand held grinder. Even 600 grit sandpaper does wonders. Aluminum cleans up pretty good , it just hard to keep it that...

    Engine start issues

Preferably you should disassemble as much as you can so that you get a thorough cleaning. Remove the accelerator pump too. You will probably need too or should replace that anyways with a new one. Many times that is a issue with those carbs. The main goal is to all the crud out of the carb...

    Engine start issues

tommycarl is right on the money. Too bad you don't have a ultrasonic cleaner as that gets everything. How bad were the fuel bowls inside? Give us some pictures of your progress. If we can see conditions of things we can maybe give you better advise or suggestions.

Please tell me this isn't as bad as I think...78 cb750f problem

Ouch! Nice repair job though. I think it will be fine also. It really pays to keep a eye on your chain to prevent this. Which reminds me , I need a new one too.

    Engine start issues

That symptom seems to me as to be a overheating problem. Was the engine very hot. With the carbs not set up it may lead to a very lean running motor which can seize up as it gets hot. This could lead to all kinds of other problems. If you have no fuel flow issue, you have a carb mixture issue. I...

    New Guy Here

I never really cared for those style seats on your bike . I had a Goldwing with this style seat and I shaved the foam down to a Super sport type look and it really improved the look and still had the comfort. I took it to a trim shop for covering with vinyl. I think it cost around a hundred if...

Please tell me this isn't as bad as I think...78 cb750f problem

If you were to stop drill the crack ends, just use a small bit a little larger than the crack like maybe 1/8th inch. You don't need to go thru the case with the drill, just a little touch so as to stop the tear in the metal. Then as far as the v filed in the crack, just a light score to give...

    1978 CB750K Original Exhaust

They are worth what someone is willing to pay that day for them. Could be 200 to 500 up. Depends on how perfect they are and who needs them. They look to be blued, was the bike running lean? That can deduct value from being perfect chrome. If you trying to get top money you need a big audience...

    Engine start issues

If I were you I would look for a new or used Chilton's manual for the CB 750 and get it. There is so much good stuff in there for identifying symptom's and the repair process for your bike. I have one I use myself. There is a section on rebuilding carbs that if you follow it you will have no...

    Engine start issues

I would pull the carbs and go thru them to see what their condition is first. May need new kits in them to get rid of any vacuum leaks, set up floats, clean all passages ect. This way you know what you have. You also can check your wires from the engine case to see if you get continuity for your...

Please tell me this isn't as bad as I think...78 cb750f problem

JB Weld is great stuff! Just clean it up real good to bare metal, maybe stop drill a little in crack end points so it wont spread any more from vibrations. I would file the crack to make a v inside so that the JB has some bit into it and spread it over the bare metal you cleaned around the area...

    Help

I agree with tommycarl on the coil if the points and condenser are in good shape. These are old bikes and if that is a original coil sometimes the wires burn away at the plug socket. You may need to cut back the wire a bit inside the plug boot and re screw them back on. Do you get any spark from...

    Help

Check the condenser, may be bad. That would cause the points not to work and you would get no spark.

    Swingarm bushings

I want to upgrade my old bushings in my 78 f model swing arm and I see bronze and a needle bearing type replacement available. Would the handling be about the same with either or? Is there one better than the other as far as longevity or better handling? This bike will be seeing a lot of highway...

    Seat cover replacement for 78 f 750

I had a friend with a 750 who had tangs break off also on his seat. It seems that the metal used in the pan stampings can not take much bending. I have done one seat myself in the past, but I remember that when I bent down the tangs I could tell they were weakened from being re bent. I am...

    Seat cover replacement for 78 f 750

I am going to put a new cover on my seat and was wondering if any of you have had problems with the pan prongs being weak to bend in position and breaking off. I took the old cover off and did not bend any of the prongs up yet. I was thinking maybe they should be heated with a torch as to take...

78 Front wheel sticking using front brake........

I would check your run out on the disk and rim as one could be bent causing a sticking problem also. Was this bike working fine in your possession before you changed the caliper?

    Powder coating Comstar rims

I am thinking of getting a set of 78 CB 750 comstar rims powder coated and was wondering if any of you guys out there have done this and if so how well do they hold up. I want to do a two tone color scheme, something like blue on the rim and silver for the rest. The rims are good shape except...
