Hopefully it allows me to post a link to my album from my phone!
Some bad ass velocity stacks...jetting must have been fun...
I dont think this works.. I have a set of oem cables that are new to prove it..somewhere..lol I remember buying the same ones as my brother did for his bottlecaps thinking nothing about the carb differences(mine are PD's) and once I went to install the free play was off for both//or atleast one...
Great topic, lets hope we can get some responses.. It's amazing how mechanins, electricians are more than willing to post their free knowledge on the web all day long yet the paint/body secrets remain under wraps  Great idea!
I just studied tires for 4 months memorizing the sizes, profiles..values on a metric and made my bike sit level and appear to have similar front and rear tires (fat)....rather than dik around with the above mentioned..
Welcome and sweet chop, love the idea of rescued parts! Both the bottle caps and PD series are fairly simple to set up..im a rookie and have successfully set two diff bikes up ..ine a 73 with bottle caps and my bike a 78 with PD series...Best of luck and ask away if things pop up!
Someday...someday.. I would have a few friends on Harleys that make the trip annually...i couldnt imagine riding my solo seat that far...lol my spine would be shot
I say screw your fittings back in...dump gas in very carefully via funnel(painted tank) and let it sit for awhile..then drain...then shoot air into the tank..like 100 psi should dry/blow out any contaminants out of your supp/ret line holes...
Just wanted to say the bike looks sick stabler..well done, tge bugs will work out over time..the cold cyl sounds like a carb issue..pull the plug and check for good spark, then move on to carb...just to rule out that simple check ;) whats your xs400.com handle, im on there as well?
Connectors are highly unreliable...but another thing it thought of was...any chance between the last time it ran fine/charged and now that you welded on the bike..or had an arch while doing wiring? I learned that kills vreg by experience...lol

I hear ya...between my 2 vintage bikes I've been through some "comical" parts aquisitions as well. Regarding the tank..its original..not perfect..but is there..i believe a wet sand..touch up with a fine brush and rattlecan clear would suffice...but im no painter..lol petcock just needs...
Dirt I'd fear the cats first my friend, our Pa. bears are quite elusive, they fear humans and are rarely attacking anyone in Pennsylvania..Big cats scare me :yikes:
Ill post pics later...tank with key along with a cleaned ready for rebuild petcock for 75 bucks plus shipping...tank has to mini dimples and some clear coat worn through..has some rust inside but is deff clean-able..let me know
