    CB900 engine failure

It's a great bike as long as you're not trying to 135 hp at the rear wheel (I don't think he was actually getting that but it's what he claimed).

    Engine Oil

Sorry, I didn't mean to talk down to you. A lot of novices (like I was) end up going in circles and getting frustrated because they get bad or incomplete advice. Many things, clutch adjustment being one of them, are a sequence of operations that have to be done in a specific order. The manual...

    CB900 engine failure

It was good news for the rest of us because we could only beat him if he didn't finish 😂

    Engine Oil

+1 on the manual. Difficult to overstate the importance of having one. The factory manual is the gold standard and you can probably find a PDF online. If you prefer a physical book like I do Haynes manuals are pretty good. The Clymer ones suck.

    Engine Oil

If you can't shift to neutral the clutch is dragging. Consult the manual and adjust the clutch before doing anything else. While thicker oil could conceivably cause dragging, it's more likely that the cable has stretched or that one of the other parts in the system has gone out of adjustment...

    CB900 engine failure

I saw a couple of posts about CB900s on here and it reminded me of something I saw when I was racing in WERA vintage. There was a guy who was racing a CB900 and kept building hotter and hotter engines for them. He was an excellent rider and didn't all of that power, but it was something he...

    81 CB750K carburetors

Of course I gave away my mercury vials a few years ago. If I get lucky I might get away with the tool I have that does one at a time. I've done it with two. I saw a dial gauge balancer for $50 but I'm not dying to buy more tools.

    81 CB750K carburetors

That sounds about right. I'll post what I find out on here.

    81 CB750K carburetors

So there's posts on here where people have tried this kit? I tried doing just jets and shims on a gs650g and it was like chasing my tail, not worth the effort.

You're the first person I've ever heard say that.

    81 CB750K carburetors

Found it. The stages aren't like I remember them but it looks like the stage three kit is what I'm after: https://www.dynojet.com/jet-kit-for-1980-1982-honda-cb750-cb900-stage-1-3-1127/

    81 CB750K carburetors

Bummer. Ages ago when I had a Suzuki you could get a stage 1 kit for airbox change, stage 2 for airbox and pipe, etc. It had jets, needles, and springs for your application.

    81 CB750K carburetors

Cool. Is there a jet kit I can get so I can get rid of the air cleaner? I see that vintagecb750 sells jet assortments but I was hoping for a kit that just includes what I need for deleting the air cleaner.

    81 CB750K carburetors

I was figuring the rubber boots would be toast. I hope they're still available. Educating myself on how to do it properly will probably be worth it. I had an MG (car) with CV carbs on it. Back when they were new MG mechanics had the public convinced that you needed to be an astrophysicist to...

    81 CB750K carburetors

I suppose I should stop whining and rebuild them. The kit's only $35.

    Charging system

I've never had to do more than check the voltage on the battery with any bike. If the bike is charging the voltage should go up to 14 or so when you rev it. If that's happening the bike is charging. With the bike off, the standing charge should be 12 and change. The times I've had to replace...

    81 CB750K carburetors

Have you ever rebuilt them yourself? Most of my experience has been with the very primitive carbs on antique English stuff. I had a couple of cb750Fs about 20 years ago and my memory of the carburetors is that they were really complicated.

    81 CB750K carburetors

Just bought an 81 750K that's in super-rough shape. It runs, but only on starting fluid. Water infiltration is a certainty. Should I bother trying to rebuild these or find a better set? I wouldn't be opposed to changing to a completely different set of carburetors, if such a thing is possible.
