Hi, I bought a used switch from a CBR600 and used the headlight switch from that; took a bit of fiddling and cursing to get the wiring right but it works fine.
What I do is to put a longer pipe on the vacuum side of the tap and gently suck to open the tap so the carbs can refill and then replace the pipe with the one going to the engine. Couple of turns on the starter and she fires up.
The original part is NLA from Honda so you'll either have to find a good used one or a repair kit for your old original one.

Just wanted to ask you all if this seems right/wrong (and if so, what could be the issue):
If I switch the ignition on then there's a current draw of approx 3 Amps; this is with no head/tail lights connected so the only bulbs lit are Oil & Neutral (which is about 0.5A). I'm guessing that...
Difficult to say until you take it off and have a look at what you've got. I'd hope that you have all the spacer parts and only need the bearings, circlip and seals which are still available from Honda. The end caps (16) are also still available if they're missing.
