I have a 1971 k1 engine. The entire top end needs REPLACING. Do I need to find specific K1 partners or will any SOHC head and cylinder head work?

You can use 1969 through 1975 K model cyinders/heads I believe. After that I think Honda changed the oil line routing through the cylinders and top end. You could perhaps use later models as well, but that I'm not sure of.
As long as you stick with the K parts you can use parts through 78. 77 and 78 super sport parts can be used buy you have to do machine work and carefully check clearances. Nothing later will fit. Best parts for your K1 motor would be to find K1 parts.
