I totally agree re the manual, and do actually have. My query is regarding lubricants.... that have progressed massively since 1980, when the manual was written.

Use a motorcycle specific oil....that is why they are made. Amsoil is great, valvoline motorcycle oil is great if you want conventional type oil. Stock engine no need to go thicker than a 10-40 unless you live in a very warm climate.
