Clutch so tight that cable snapped

I picked up a 1978 cb750 the other night that runs rough, about to clean the carbs up and see what that does for her. Anyhow I noticed the clutch would not budge. I gave it a pretty ample amount of pressure to see if it would give and then the old cables snapped. What could have it seized up so tight? First time messing with a motorbike clutch. Any input would be great! thanks

Where did the cable snap? If it snapped up by the clutch lever then more than likely just the cable was seized.

That is where it snapped! Thanks, ill replace it and see what happens!

...and since you'll be in there anyway you may as well adjust your clutch at the same time.
