Rear Wheel Bearing Removal

I'm repacking the rear wheel bearings on my 1975 K5. The rear hub is threaded, but the wheel bearing retainer appears to have a tack weld that keeps me from removing the bearings. I assume this was done at the factory. There seems to be no way to remove this bearing retainer without damaging the threads in the hub. I'm thinking that a dremmel tool might be small enough to cut the tack weld.

Was the retainer tack welded at the factory or was this done by a previous owner? If it was done at the factory, does anyone have suggestions about how to access the rear bearings without doing great damage to the hub? Thank you in advance for your wisdom and assistance.

It's actually knocked with a punch. Just drill out the notch a little bit and you should be able to move it. Then when you put it back in, knock it with a punch in a different spot.
