Get yourself some Bridgestone Spitfires. I have them on my 76 cb750f and my 81 gl1100. Dual compound, good in the wet, last a long time. You'll thank me. The only reason to use vintage tires is if you're just showing the bike and not riding it.

You should definitely keep the airbox. I tried the pod filters, they don't work nearly as well as the airbox. And I had K&N pods. Your carbs need the constant velocity provided by the airbox.

Spent a lot of time comparing what was available on the market for my 750. Liked a lot of the CycleX systems but didn't want chrome. Decided to get one from Carpy's. Fit is good, sounds good, works good.

If you're going to change the valve guides then go with the best. No sense shortchanging yourself. I found an aftermarket airbox that you would probably like and you could avoid the pods altogether. If you buy the cheap pods like EMGO you'll just be throwing your money away. They are crap...

How many miles on the bike? Notorius for eating the valve guides when you get over 25k. You should plan on changing them while you have the engine out. Whatever style you decide to go with don't eliminate the front fender or start hacking the frame to death. Plan on buying a fork brace...

Why would you want to run straight pipes? It will do nothing for the performance of the engine. All engines need back pressure. You're turning a good engine into a piece of crap!

Have fun lacing those wheels. I did the same thing on my 76. First time I've ever done it. Man was it frustrating.

The cold winter, new grandchildren, and various other life stuff has kept me from my project lately. Finally got back to it and finished my oil tank side cover project. Had to stop everything else since it required welding a few tabs onto the frame. Anyway here are a couple of pics.
