How large of a tire can I put on my front and rear wheel of an 80 super sport? In regards to height and width. I’m not looking to do anything crazy but I want it to look more “full” without rubbing or hitting due to suspension travel. (Stock ride height with 365mm shocks) Thanks

On second thought.. would it most likely behoove me to knock the exterior rust off and keep them in? I guess I don’t really need to remove them. I was just being OCD about making sure I’ve addressed every nut, bolt, and stud.

Is this bearing something I should expect to go bad “soonish” or are the generally good? Again, I’ve got to give you credit for your knowledge of these bikes. Thanks for the info.

Yikes. That’s a kick in the nads. I guess I’ll weld a nut on and see if the heat from welding is enough for it to break free. If that doesn’t work maybe I’ll take the heads into work and machine the studs out.

The 1980 super sport I just purchased has zero rust anywhere on it except for the exhaust studs... and they’re really rusty and stuck in the heads. I tried the double nut trick with heat to back them off and lost that battle. What’s my next step. Drill them out?

I see. I’m sure I’m asking an open ended question, but let’s say whatever that bearing is you are referring to, does go bad....you’ve got the bad bearing out and there is no re using it..... so that means it’s time to look for a donor transmission??

AMC, you’re are proving yourself as a living manual for these bikes :wink2: thank you! So how do these motorcycle shops do complete rebuilds if there are no bearings available? Seems like that would be a quick end to a project.

Unfortunately the bearings were destroyed upon removal. To say that they were practically welded to the inside of the swingarm is an understatement. So I have no numbers to go off of :shrug:

So I need new needle bearings for my swing arm on an ‘80 750 super sport and I can only find one supplier on eBay from the United Kingdom that has them. Anywhere in the states have any? The more I dig it’s just impossible to find them elsewhere. Makes me nervous about any other parts I’ll need...

Thank you so much. Makes sense now. Well, to avoid having to start another topic maybe a couple other questions could be answered here. Little black plastic container mounted underneath the battery tray??? Is it a catch can? Also, is there no oil cooler on the ‘80 supersport?

Started stripping down a 1980 super sport I just picked up for a café build (my first build I should add...) and noticed this “T” had an open end on it. Anyone know what’s going on here? Edit....can’t get pics to post... it’s a T that is located near the battery box. Sorry for lack of info and...
