2 Questions. #1. Transmission shifting weird sometimes. #2. Starter clutch ??

I will do that right now. I don't suppose you get to see the forks unless you take a lot of stuff apart do you? I know this is a very loaded question, but... What oil do you use in these? Ok, I just read the article. I guess it helped put my mind to rest quite a bit that this happened even...

2 Questions. #1. Transmission shifting weird sometimes. #2. Starter clutch ??

Ok, well if you haven't read one of my posts before, this is a 1979 CB750K and I am a first time bike rider/not really mechanic. I got my license last week so i've been riding the bike to work as much as I can. #1. The transmission isn't 100%. What I mean is that sometimes between 2-3 or 3-4 it...

    Pipes 3&4 aren't getting hot like pipes 1&2 ???

I'm not exactly sure why I checked that, I can't remember what led up to that but it was very helpful. I'm a car guy, pretty knowledgeable about cars but the motorcycle game is completely new to me. I will remember that this worked and use it again in the future for sure.

    Pipes 3&4 aren't getting hot like pipes 1&2 ???

Alright, i'm going to get mixed reviews here and the news I have is mixed indeed. First, the good. I put in 4 new spark plugs gapped to .030 and the bike runs much, much better. Actually, not only are all 4 pipes hot but the thing runs the best it has while in my possession. It has gobs of...

    Pipes 3&4 aren't getting hot like pipes 1&2 ???

I just ran to the shop and grabbed my compression tester and spark tester this morning. I'm hoping I'll have time tomorrow to use both. I started it up this morning to verify that it was doing the same thing. Both left pipes burning hot, both right pipes room temperature, not even warm...

    Pipes 3&4 aren't getting hot like pipes 1&2 ???

This is assuming that the order is 1-2-3-4 from left to right as you're on the bike. The left two cylinders get the pipes nice and hot. The right two cylinders are barely warm when the left two will burn your hand with the slightest touch. I had assumed that I had a bad coil but after doing...

    Carb adjustments? 1979 DOHC

That makes sense. It was a little warmer when I got it two weeks ago. Then it cooled a bit (and got used instead of sitting for the winter) and it just wouldn't idle for me. Otherwise it hasn't given me any issues other than the aforementioned backfiring. Well I appreciate your comment because I...

    Carb adjustments? 1979 DOHC

Well if I wasn't lost then i'd be the guy answering the questions, lol. You are right about the plugs, maybe I didn't get enough coffee? They are dry fouled but that may be too many short trips around the neighborhood and not enough longer trips too, i'm still practicing riding, this is my...

    Carb adjustments? 1979 DOHC

I have searched the internet to find a nice diagram of where the adjustment screws are on these carbs and I haven't found anything great. Also, I was born in '85 and while I like carbureted engines, carbs are just before my time and no one has really shown me how to adjust them properly. My '79...

Hi all, noob with a 1979 CB750 Bobber, Can you source a new starter or only buy used?

Yeah, he didn't explain how a lock nut works very well in that video but I get it. Ok, that's great. I'm going to change the oil and tighten the cam chain and see where that puts me. If the clutch still does that I'll order the rebuild kit.

1979 Starter problems, have some ??'s

Ok, not sure about the letter i'm looking for. My VIN doesn't start CB750 like I see others, at least SOHC bikes did. My VIN is RC012018873 That VIN is stamped on the right side and is confirmed on the riveted tag on the left side. Is that weird?

1979 Starter problems, have some ??'s

My bike has starter problems. 8/10 times that you push the starter button the starter sounds like gravel in a blender. Not only is this unpleasant, it also doesn't attempt to start the bike. 2/10 times the starter fires the engine right up. Two questions about this; #1. Does this sound like I...

Hi all, noob with a 1979 CB750 Bobber, Can you source a new starter or only buy used?

Thanks Flogger. In doing more research today I realized that my bike has pod air filters on it and that's why it needs tape over them to reduce the airflow way down. I like the look of the pods but maybe I need to get an airbox? Enjoying learning more about this great machine!

Hi all, noob with a 1979 CB750 Bobber, Can you source a new starter or only buy used?

Hi there. My name is Joe. I just traded for my first motorcycle yesterday. She's a 1979 CB750 Bobber Bike. A bit of a jalopy at the moment but we'll get that fixed in time. Anyway, I have two questions mechanically, otherwise it runs great with the exception of dirty carbs or something (they...
