Everything works fine now. Thanks for your help

    Clutch not dis engaging

I got the clutch off and separated the discs and the plates between them. There did seem to be the slightest bit of rust and the discs left a little mark on the plates. I want to use some 1000 or 2000 grit sandpaper to just clean off the plates a little. Then clean real well and oil. Do you...

    Clutch not dis engaging

When I took the cover off, by the way, not much oil at all came out? I assume then that it gets engine oil in some way?

Thanks, I’ll try cutting a socket, and the feedback.

    Clutch not dis engaging

Ok Dirtdigger, i tried the other method suggested by the others and it didn’t work, so now i will take plates out and do what you suggested. Take out clean off, then thin coating of oil? I assume not much? Thanks to the other guys for the suggestion, tried twice, no luck. Also it looks like i...

I’ll try that first, before pulling the clutch. Easiest 1st

    Clutch not dis engaging

Ok,it’s been at least a year since I have had my bike running. Just cleaned carbs. I was going to take it for a test, but the clutch is not disengaging. When i have clutch in and put into 1st, it just lurches forward and kills. Clutch not working. It’s like popping the clutch at idle. This has...

Mercury sync tool with air bubbles

Thanks, i did tap the bottom of the tower with a rubber hammer and it helped eliminate almost all of the gaps in the mercury column. You guys are a great help. I’m an old guy(68), and i don’t know what i would do without a computer. Opens up the world doesn’t it?

    Floats

Ya know when i bought the bike back in 1974(long,long time ago), i would leave it sit over winter and just change oil and filter in spring and good to go. I have started a couple of years ago, using gas without ethanol in all my small engines and older engines. I guess like you said, if I’m not...

You mean just the 4 gauge kits on the market. I think anything that works is better than the non solid stream I have now.

Mercury sync tool with air bubbles

I will try a that, but it’s not really bubbles. My description is more that it’s not a solid column of mercury but short/ long dashes of mercury. In between the dashes, just gaps in the mercury column. Maybe to you it’s the same thing? When it’s not hooked up and I’m just looking at the tower...

Mercury sync tool with air bubbles

Hi, i am trying to use a mercury sync tool that I haven’t used in years and there seems to be a lot of air in the mercury stream. As you know the tower is about 18-20” tall and when i start it its obvious they are out of sync, but with so much gap between mercury that is fluctuating, just can’t...

    Floats

Thanks it worked. Another issue. I have a set of mercury sync tool, but the mercury just tried using it. Haven’t in maybe 7-10 yrs. seem like there is a lot of air bubbles in it and in one the mercury doesn’t even move.not sure if i can do anything with it or not. Do know if i should put a...

    Floats

I have had carb issues for a long time. Dirt Digger helped a lot by having me change my float level, because of fouled plugs. So this time , as i said I cleaned carbs, replaced couple float valve that the little spring in float was not working. I don’t think that would have been an issue, but...

Thanks, I do use non ethanol here as well. I will make the adjustment and anxious to see what happens. Thanks again

    plugs fouling

There are 5 slots, so moving it 1 notch would be middle. Would 1 move make a big difference? Do you use a fuel additive with premium gas? Just trying to figure out how to keep the slow jet open.

    plugs fouling

Thanks, I think I have this right. The jet needle has 5 slots and the clip is in the 4th from the top(or 2nd slot from tip of needle). I know it's hard to see diagram that came out of shop manual, but #10 in pic is jet needle. Do you think I should move clip? See attachment. Again, your help has...

    plugs fouling

Dirtdigger , I did reply and hoping you got it. Looking for some more advice since your float height suggestion seems correct. Please see my question in last post. Let me know if you cant see it, then I will start it again. thanks so much

    plugs fouling

Dirtdigger, I think you were right on the float height. I set the float height from factory 26mm to 30mm and after a few miles, which in the past, they would be fouled, they weren’t! Took plugs out; #1 was a little dark, 2&3 looked really good, 4 a little dark, but still had white. Still had...

    plugs fouling

Ya, I know the pics are dark, but at least gives you an idea. Black, but dry. The float valves do seem to be holding now. They are original floats. they don't seem to be plastic, more like a cork? I don't know.

    plugs fouling

OK, I think i'll take off the carbs and lower the float height. The carbs haven't been synced in awhile. I have mercury gauges, not vacuum. it does seem like it's in the carbs. I have instruction when I got the gauges and they do spec how to do it for a 750. hope they are ok to use? I will go...

    plugs fouling

Dirtdigger, I cleaned plugs and took it out for a few miles. And at 3000&4000rpm started closing choke and same results, ran the same until 90-95% choke closed. No change until basically closed, then died of course. So after a few miles 3 plugs black but not wet. Starts to sputter a lot at lower...

    plugs fouling

Ok, i took it out for a few miles and got same results. Ran at 3000&4000 rpm and as I closing the choke ran the same until maybe 90%-95% choke closed also attached, I hope you can see what 3 of the 4 plugs look like after maybe 3 Miles. They are dry.

    plugs fouling

Ok, i’ll take It out and try it and see results after that.

    plugs fouling

You also asked about float level. I tried to get them as close to 26mm above carb body, as the manual says. Stock floats. I noticed 1 or 2 of the float valves is not completely shutting off fuel. I separated the overflow lines to find out which ones.
  26. U

    plugs fouling

Dirtdigger, I ran it at 2000 and 3000 rpm and started closing choke and it ran the same until the choke was fully closed. So I would say, probably 90% closed at least before there was a change it how it ran. Obviously died when I cut off air. Curious what that tells you?

No water scooter yet. Got my driveway back in order. Will go back and answer Dirtdigger suggestion
  28. U

    plugs fouling

Ya, they are black and sooty and I think it’s in the carbs, caus it did the same before I put in electronic ign, new coils, new plug boots. Dirtdigger gave me help on finding out how to see if I they are too rich. I just haven’t done it yes. We had 15” of rain, so dealing with cleanup. It took...

    plugs fouling

Hi,I know I didn’t follow the break in procedure as described in the link you provided, but I know I haven’t put on maybe 50 miles since that happened. You asked how it runs, pretty well at higher rpm,and as I mentioned, great when fresh plugs are in. So I will take a picture when I know one is...
