I've had this bike since '95
Maybe it's time for someone else to enjoy it. Someone that can rebuild motors. But, I am shopping for a engine mechanic in the area.
The bike was diagnosed with low compression today. Too low. I got 120 psi on the two outer cylinders and when I squirted oil in there and retested it went up dramatically, leads me to rings/cylinder compression. Really strange because the bike runs well. Doesn't burn oil, etc. It just has this...
I'm pretty sure it's the stoppers catching on the walls of the seat. It's an intermittent thing. Didn't do it for a long time, then had a ride the other day and didn't shut off the petcock afterwards.
I can't get these carbs to stop leaking. Before you write about cleaning, and adjusting, and measuring, I've done 'em all. Twice. Wet test, aftermarket floats with bendable tabs, and different float needles(stoppers), (original floats were not adjustable and they were causing leakage then)...

I'm having the same problem, when I really get ON it. I put a new/old clutch in it. What I mean by that is, someone on Ebay had an old, brand new in the bag, Barnett friction disks set on their shelf.
Must've been from the 80's. So, I'm wondering if this old cork clutch set doesn't...
If you get the cheap eBay generic solenoids, get at least two of them. If battery is new, then try the jump as stated above. Positive line directly to starter with key on, bike in neutral. Bike in neutral.
Doesn't have too much extra value over like say a K series. I have the 80 750F and as you know, the 750's are a great bike. $3K is a little high unless it's all restored and then you have to consider who did the restoring and the overall quality, etc. If it doesn't seem right then maybe hold out...
I just put the airbox back on. Much better now. CV carbs just can't handle the individual pods. Has nothing to do with rich or lean. It has to do with the eveness of the airflow especially when you're moving. The vortex blows into cylinders 1 and 4 causing them a great amount of air supply while...
It was happening to me too until I changed my gas cap. Yes, my gas cap. The one that was on there got plugged up with the tank coating stuff. It wasn't breathing, I noticed it when I went out to the garage and heard a bubbling coming from the bike. Check it out, take your cap off while your...
SF East Bay Area, at sea level. No humidity, dry, dry out here. 70, 80 degree days. Gonna try one more, combo, the 75-115. If that doesn't fly then back to box. I'm glad I left the option open this time. The XJ650 airbox was cut to get it out.
I'm in the same boat. Went all the up to 140's and 80's on the pilots, still a big flat spot after 1/2 throttle. 80 750F, New boots, Plugs are dry and tan. Compression is about 130 all 4. Got passed by a Harley today. Really embarrassing.
Originally had 68 pilot jets and 100 main jets. Got rid of the airbox and exhaust, (now 4-1) So, I went up to 70 on the pilot jets and 105 on the mains. There was some popping and it just wouldn't go after 1/2 throttle. So I went up in size. 80 on the pilots and 140 on the mains. Still not right...
The main reason I thought jets was because bike was running fine before pods and exhaust change. Naturally runs leaner when these changes take place. More air in, more air out. I did drop down to 120's and seems a little better. Problems at 3/4 throttle now, a little bog, chugging when I give it...
Thank you amc49, probably the most helpful advice I've gotten. So far. Yes, the low speed seems to be good (idles a little high though which makes me believe it's lean or vacuum leak) new intake boots installed. I just got rid of the chrome cheap pods and put k&n's on. Made the 1/2 throttle...
Now I'm running 140 mains and 80's and it's running pretty good now. Engine is fine, what do think of that! It was fine before I put pods and a 4 into 1 on. So clearly, it was too lean, causing excessive heat, causing the exhaust gas to reignite.
