    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

I think I might just take it to someone I couldn’t get it idling well enough to even try and test for vacuum leaks, I checked the boots, they all looked good, I even got the carbs onto the boots super snug Feeling pretty defeated today haha

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

I hadn’t run into this issue until now I’m going to check the boots now, I put 8mm clamps on which are the same width as the factory ones

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Okay I went down the the bike shop to look for a part and had a chat with the mechanic, he said if the butterflies are closed and it’s reving up there’s a leak at the manifold boots

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Okay I’ve changed the jets back to factory. I’ve now got a new problem Even with the slightest throttle the bike revs way up

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Throttle definitely works It’s getting too much fuel so it’s completely bogged

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Nah it’s fully open, it’s got 100ml capacity I’m not pushing any fuel into the carbs, it’s gravity fed You can even see it in the video
  13. Chudman1

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

It’s being gravity fed I’m just using the syringe as a vessel Tank needs a good clean

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

I cleaned the slides again, but it only cranked when the fuel ran out, could the floats be too high? I don’t think you can adjust these ones Either that or it was less fuel I’m an idiot and put bigger jets in but I’m gonna swap them back to the factory size

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Alright, the issue is definitely too much fuel Once the fuel ran out, the air rushed in and she went all the way up baby See video.

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Vacuum petcock is plugged I don’t have a tank on atm so I’ve got a fuel syringe feeding straight into the carbs, nothing stopping it flowing into the carbs except the floats

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

If the floats aren’t seating it comes out of the overflow?
  20. Chudman1

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Would there be any other things work looking at here, or would you say all fuel related? Could the spark be too weak or the timing off?

Didn’t mean any disrespect, I used the guide already, it was great

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

The floats are definitely working and fuel is getting to the bowls. I’m gonna hit the slides again and make sure they’re not getting caught on anything

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

I’m back! Found some clamps that are pretty close to the oem band clamps, couldn’t find the oem band clamps for less than $200 posted which is outrageous. The airbox was a fucking punish to get in and connected, I had a to rearrange all my wiring to fit it in 🫠 The bike starts and runs, but...

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

If I was still taking shortcuts would I have spent 20hrs rebuilding the carbs? The goal was to see if the bike would start, which it did. The clamps and new throttle cables etc are on the list of things to get

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Hey Brett, I did check and they don’t block the air circuit However I got the bike running a few times but even with the throttle fully open and the choke closed it was completely bogged? All the pipes were hot which is a good sign Also there’s a decently loud knocking Not sure if you can hear...

    79 CB750 - Starting issues, carburettor?

Alright I’m back! Just so happened the 900s carbs had usable slow speed jet plugs, so that’s a bonus. I got the 750s carbs fully assembled today, they’re looking damn good too if you ask me. I stole the rail off the 900 set too and cleaned it up. Now, I know everyone is going to have the...

I gave them a light hit with some scotch bright to make sure they were moving freely I’ll probably double back on them again though

I could be wrong, but I don’t think they’re adjustable on this model of carbs 🤔
