    Tach Screw Completely Stripped

Its a 1981 DOHC CB750F I checked compression two weeks ago and had between 130 and 150 on every cylinder. Then I checked and adjusted valve lash. Now compression is 90 on each cylinder. I saw on another forum that simply getting a slightly longer tach screw fixes the problem. I am scared...

    Tach Screw Completely Stripped

Yes, totally and completely stripped. It was held in there with a very very large amount of gasket sealer. In fact, the entire cylinder head cover was held on with an intense amount of gasket sealer.. Seems the previous owner didn't want to but a new gasket, or hit a snag and used an ugly...

DOHC working on pods, what to do after removing airbox?

Someone else with a bit more technical knowledge could answer with a better explanation. But the reason I am leaving the one tube connected to the breather box under the battery, is because I've read if you just hook up a breather filter, it will eventually spit grease and grime all over your...

DOHC working on pods, what to do after removing airbox?

Here's what I ended up doing: I got a crankcase filter for the smaller hose. That's a slick K&N and was 'only' like $14. Then I jammed some of that small hose into the end of the long hose, trimmed it to fit, and stuck it in the end of the box under the battery that it drains to normally.

    Favorite Oil?

Total noob question, what do the numbers refer too? Thickness, density, viscosity? Or do all three of those words mean exactly the same thing? Its been 16 years since high school auto class.. My CB750 manual says to use 10W-40 for regular riding, or SAE30 for riding above 60 degree F...

    Favorite Oil?

Very cool, thanks. Another forum had a bunch of praise for Shell Rotella.. Either way, just about everything is cheaper than GN4, and no one seems to give it praise on any other forum..

    Favorite Oil?

Whats everyone's favorite? Its almost riding season here in Chicago. After looking into more than I did last year (my first year with the bike), it seems not everyone thinks that GN4 is the only thing you should put in your bike. I didn't know any better last year and spent all that money on...

    Cams leaking?

I'm an idiot. The rubber washers were stuck to the cylinder head and preventing me from getting the screws all the way out. Flat head screw driver to pry up the rubber washers and I've got them all changed out..

    Cams leaking?

Hey I've ordered the necessary new rubber washers. I had no trouble installing the 4 that go around the exterior. But the 4 there that are interior, under the frame so to say are being brats. I turn them and turn them and they only come up this far and won't come out. I've used some pliers...

DOHC working on pods, what to do after removing airbox?

I do intend to get rid of the airbox and put in some pods. Do I get little crankcase breathers for both of those 'ports' then? Get a hose clamp to hold the one that goes into the thick hose coming out by dipstick, after I trim the hose to appropriate length? Am I missing a main keyword here...

DOHC working on pods, what to do after removing airbox?

Hey fellas Just removed the carburetor for the first time ever in my life. That was fun, took a lot of elbow grease. It looks to be in good shape which is nice. The guy who sold it to me last summer said he had just cleaned the carbs, I guess he wasn't lying.. Anyways, what do I do here...

    Cams leaking?

Thanks. $6.16 each. Had to be careful, the official Honda Parts House website wanted to charge me like $21 to ship 8 little rubber washers..

    Cams leaking?

    Wiring Custom Speedo and Tach

Gentlemen, I bought a custom Speedo and Tach from Dime City Cycles because I'm sick of looking at the monstrosity of an instrument cluster I have on my '81 CB750F. Looks easy enough to wire, the speedo included a wiring diagram. But its a LED backlit speedo that only has one connection for...

    Cams leaking?

Hey there. I've been noticing a bit of a leak for a while. Just 'pinpointed' where its coming from the other day. I check the oil level every other week or so and it doesn't seem to be leaking enough to bother the reading on the dipstick. But of course would like to get it taken care of...

Non LED Turn Signals Not Blinking

Sorry, jumped the gun here. Yes one of the turn signals is defective. Doesn't look like its the bulb, and doesn't look like I'll be able to take it apart and see if the internal connections are jacked and attempt to repair myself... Lesson learned.. They do look bad azz though, right?

Non LED Turn Signals Not Blinking

I removed the awful, huge, ugly, organe, 7 foot long sticking out of each side of my bike stock turn signals.. Put these little bad boys on. They may not be as effective, but I don't care they look cool as hell...

    Why is this

I hope to install new bullet style turn signals this weekend myself. One of the two screws on the headlight is absolutely rusted through. Like the very frist screw I try and put a screwdriver too, and its totally stuck... Funny turn signals are giving me more of a problem than the clutch..

I don't know what to do here with this headlight screw

soaked it in WD40. Tapped on it from every angle with a flat head screw driver and hammer. in between both washers and around the screw from every angle. tried tightening it just to see if it could break its rusty seal... that sonbitch is not moving. soaked it in WD40 again and will wait a...

I don't know what to do here with this headlight screw

Just a light turn and the thing started stripping. I guess I'd just slather it in WD40 and let it sit for a few min, then try again with the screwdriver. Anything I'm missing? I'm new to this.. Trying to install little bullet style turn signals on the headlight where the ugly reflectors are...

CV Carbs, Dynojet Stage 3, K&N Pods

Oh, duh on the SOHC. I swear I found one for DOHC. Maybe at Cycle X or maybe at Dime City? I am mostly curious if anyone has experience with the DynoJet Stage 3 kit. The guys at Steel Bent said thats how they 'fix' the pods on DOHC 'problem'. Looking at the DynoJet info page suggests it...

CV Carbs, Dynojet Stage 3, K&N Pods

Did you re jet in addition to adding the pods? Check this page out for one example of the chrome full size air filter that goes across all 4 carb intakes http://www.cyclexchange.net/Filters%20Page.htm

CV Carbs, Dynojet Stage 3, K&N Pods

Hey fellas 1981 CB750F SS. Kerker 4 into 1 exhaust and I took the baffle out so she's obnoxious. Bought it because it was pretty and the 'newest' bike available to me at the time in my price range. Didn't realize I was kind of shooting myself in the foot as all the Cafe Racer stuff tends to...

Which 70s CB750 makes the preferred Cafe Racer? ...and why?

I am only learning myself and am not super mechanically inclined when it comes to engines anyways. I bought an 81 CB750F Super Sport. Its sick, I love it... But I also love the cafe racer build. Particularly the 4 individual air pods into the carb instead of the ugly air box. After a bit of...

    Stuck Drain Plug?

Well... Here goes, I'll share the story with you all despite knowing how hard everyone will laugh at my expense.. After a bit more interwebs research I decided to let the bike idle for like 8 minutes. Thinking I didn't let it warm up enough the first time around. Then I got a length of...

    Stuck Drain Plug?

Alright, super noob question. I am a handy guy, so purchased CB750 F SS 1981 in order to learn how to work on it. Very first order of business is an oil change, right? Got the Honda GN4 10W-30 and the HiFlo oil filter and the rubber washers and some metric sockets and wrenches. Ready to go...

    Why is this

Cool, thanks. It only started doing this like 2 days ago so I am praying its a cable problem. The bike has 17,700 miles on it and I don't think the clutch has ever been done. I have an oil change to do this weekend so I'll look at the cable too. I have the manual and its proved to be quite...
