    1980 CB750F Charging Issues / Frustrating!!!

Not trying to be snippy at all, but once again you are way off base. The brushes have nothing to do with the stator and are not even connected . The brushes are mounted inside the side cover in the brush holder. They are spring loaded to make contact with the two contact rings on the rotor. The...

    1980 CB750F Charging Issues / Frustrating!!!

Well brettp , with all due respect , your understanding of this charging system is way off. With key on, the regulator sends 12+ volts to the rotor via the brushes. The spinning magnetized rotor creates electrical energy thru the windings of the stator, and sends this AC current to the rectifier...

    1980 CB750F Charging Issues / Frustrating!!!

The battery is a brand new Duralast Gold AGM . As far as the other components, I've had the factory Rec-Reg , as well as an aftermarket. no change. Same with the Stator, factory and aftermarket no change. The original rotor tested bad, so it was replaced with a new Electrosport rotor, still not...

    1980 CB750F Charging Issues / Frustrating!!!

This goes back to September 3rd, So recently, My 80 F stopped charging , I was able to get it home before it quit. After running several tests on the stator, and rotor,,,,,,, the rotor failed the test. I purchased a new rotor Installed then tested running voltage, and looked great 13.7 - 14.4 ...

80 CB750F Not Charging when warm

Brettp, where did you source your rotor from? There are tons of Chinese ones avaialble , then there is Ricks, not sure where his come from?

80 CB750F Not Charging when warm

Installed a new stator and tested charging and looked good. Again on the test drive I had a voltage gauge up on the dash to make note of charging voltage at different RPMs . At a steady 4k it was making just shy of 14v. About 15 minutes into the ride , the voltage output was dropping and...

80 CB750F Not Charging when warm

Just tested a few things, the rotor is at 5.8 ohms should be 5.0ohms when cold ( still a little warm) I'll test again when stone cold. All three yellow wires have continuity between all three, and no short to ground. Connectors all look good. Brush holder and brushes look good. The stator being...

    Hard Starting , Popping, Missing Etc / 80 CB750F

Well, after testing my carb sync gauges each on #2, two were off by one inch of vacuum. So took plenty of time to re-sync to where I thought they were perfect. In test driving though it just was a turd, hesitating , bucking etc, so set about to see if fuel starvation could have been the issue...

    Hard Starting , Popping, Missing Etc / 80 CB750F

Well, Of the three actions I took, new plugs (certainly not the issue) reset timing (actually advanced some so don't see this as the culprit either). So my thinking takes me back to the carb sync. So will go back and triple check this. This time I will test each gauge individually on #2 to...

    Hard Starting , Popping, Missing Etc / 80 CB750F

So, some more info, Only non ethanol in this bike since I got it. Yes, NGK-8 series plugs. Idle mixture screws at 1 1/2 turns. Pulser air gap set at .014 . So my thinking leads me to it being something I did? Before chasing the inconsistent low idle, it ran great. Set timing, changed plugs (old...

    Hard Starting , Popping, Missing Etc / 80 CB750F

Desperately trying to like this Motorcycle but it has been a struggle. #2 cylinder not firing consistently so I pulled the carbs and sent them to a friend who has work with these CV carbs before (he has restored two CBX 1100's). Sure enough he finds some crap in the jets in the #2 carb, cleans...

    Hard Starting , Popping, Missing Etc / 80 CB750F

Well, this took some time for the start up, due to a leaking Petcock and the time consuming search for a replacement. None of the Chinese ones on E-bay are suitable although they all say they are for 80 CB750F,,,,, either too small a feed tube, or wrong size fuel nipple. One even said fits 3/16...

    Hard Starting , Popping, Missing Etc / 80 CB750F

OK , finally have all the valves back in spec,,,,,,, and may I say , what a PITA!!! Anyway, ran another compression test and #2 came up from 120 to 150, perhaps then once I get it sorted out, some hard running will produce even better results to match the other cylinders 160 cold.
