Bike stored for 29 years - tips welcomed on engine oil flush and prep before startup

If I had to guess, I'd say you're carbs aren't properly cleaned and synchronized. Did you remove and clean the accel pump? Did you remove all the jets? Idle jet included? Did you sync the carb using #2 as reference? Did you set up the air screws where they're supposed to be? Did you follow the...

Bike stored for 29 years - tips welcomed on engine oil flush and prep before startup

I wouldn't touch it for now, just do a 10 minute oil warm up and swap, then switch to good oil and new filter + new spark plugs of course. But if the bike was stored for 11 years, take those carbs off and dissemblable them. They'll need a good clean, there's a good write-up on it here on the forum.

Bike stored for 29 years - tips welcomed on engine oil flush and prep before startup

Change oil with a low cost one, run it for 5-10 minutes at low rpm. Flush that oil and put some good oil in it. Then clean the carbs carefully, sync the carbs and you'll be close to having a good running bike.

Any CL-125 or CB-125 expert in the crowd? (Non CB750 related)

Haven't had a chance to take a picture, but it's as you described, it's shaped like a "Y" back under the seat where the frame splits into two. The air box rubber piece should come out the back, but the large lips at the carburetor end makes it almost impossible... I'll see if I can warm it up...

Any CL-125 or CB-125 expert in the crowd? (Non CB750 related)

About a month ago, I grabbed a 1969 CL125 as a father/daughter side project. We started disassembling the bike last week. I'm stuck on that air filter assembly. It's a long rubber piece going through the frame which comes out behind the engine. On the fw side the carb insert into it, and the air...

Air box to carb boots availability for 1984 CB750 Interceptor - suggestion welcome.

Thanks for the link - I saw those but they basically look like mines. They shrink over time and the portion going over the carbs get all twisted and just don't want to sit right. I was looking for new ones. I got them from www.cmsnl.com last night. Should get them next week and the price +...

Air box to carb boots availability for 1984 CB750 Interceptor - suggestion welcome.

Yup, thanks for the heads up - I did realize this last year when I bought the bike, I wasn't aware the US version was downsized to 700cc at that point. But I looked at a lot of stores and can't seem to find it in stock in North America. I was able to find one place in Europe though. I guess...

Air box to carb boots availability for 1984 CB750 Interceptor - suggestion welcome.

Having a hard time in finding these 2 boots linking the air box to the carburetor here in north america. I found one online store in Europe who seems to have them. Any suggestions on a store closer to us? Thanks

Bike stored for 29 years - tips welcomed on engine oil flush and prep before startup

Thanks again for chiming in. I adjusted the accelerator pump per manual, but I'll just eliminate the play. I'm at 1.5 turn now on the idle mix screws... I'll try to fine tune when I get my carb sync gauge latter this week. With the idle screws, should I fine tune until I get the highest RPM as...

Bike stored for 29 years - tips welcomed on engine oil flush and prep before startup

Thanks again for your inputs - carbs went back in the bike today- feels like 1977 all over again compared to last Friday :) Very smooth now. Two things prevent me from saying that the bike runs perfectly now: 1) Says in the manual the bike should idle @ 1K rpm +/-, mine idles great at 1400rpm...

Bike stored for 29 years - tips welcomed on engine oil flush and prep before startup

Thanks AMC. I did take the carbs off yesterday and cleaned the slow jets. They were dirty. I also caught a mistake I did; while cleaning carb #1, I took out the needle and throttle valve to clean each of them and for some reason, I reinstalled #1 incorrectly. On the air box side, the bottom of...
