Any tricks to getting stuck exhaust mounting screws on the two center cylinders out?

That's some funny stuff! I can picture it... Mine looks like it may have had a run in with a curb as well. It's got a nice flat spot on it right where the 4 pipes merge together. Between that, all of the rust and the poorly replaced pipe I figured it's headed for the dumpster as soon as I get...

Any tricks to getting stuck exhaust mounting screws on the two center cylinders out?

Yeah, the header is in pretty bad shape too.... looks like it may have been damaged at one point. It has a new tube welded into part of it. That's why I had trouble getting the collar over it.

    Is this frame bent/damaged?

Once I get it completely torn down and cleaned up I'll give it a good look over. At this point I think I'll still keep an eye out for a frame that's undamaged/straight.

Any tricks to getting stuck exhaust mounting screws on the two center cylinders out?

Thanks for the input, I was able to get the exhaust off tonight after a few failed attempts. I managed to pry, tap and twist one of the collars by the frame. So with only one left to deal with I ended up getting tired of messing around and just went caveman on it. I used 2 vice grips and just...

Any tricks to getting stuck exhaust mounting screws on the two center cylinders out?

@madmtnmotors thanks, It is a 74, it's got an RC exhaust on it if that makes a difference. The spigots don't look like they are parallel to each other so I figured I needed to unbolt the entire thing from the head because of that. I had the collars loose and hosed the @#$@# out of it with PB...

Any tricks to getting stuck exhaust mounting screws on the two center cylinders out?

I had to use an impact screwdriver to get the screws loose on the two outside cylinders. The issue is that I can't get the finned "collar" far enough out of the way to get at the screws with anything other than a normal screwdriver. They hit the frame before they slide far enough down the pipe...

    Is this frame bent/damaged?

amc49 I was kinda wondering the same thing. I haven't had a good look at another on in person to compare to.... thanks for squashing my hopes and dreams, ha! Maybe I should just plan on using this one for cutting and welding practice.

    Is this frame bent/damaged?

I was looking around at frame repairs and saw the kits that make that section removable. Seems like a more cost effective option than buying another frame. I suppose the only potential issue may be alignment??

    Is this frame bent/damaged?

Son of a.... that's what I was afraid of.

    Is this frame bent/damaged?

I picked up a 74 750 last weekend. I started pulling it apart today and noticed this "odd" spot on the frame near the head tube. It's hard to see in the picture but the tube almost looks crimped. I haven't fully cleaned it or gotten completely apart yet (that's another issue) but I don't see...

Is it easy to confirm a bike has a big bore kit installed?

@dirtdigger, thanks for the info I'll give it a good look for identifying marks. @amc49, I'm planning on checking it out this afternoon so we'll see. I figured on top of sitting for as long as it has, the possibility of a mystery/unidentifiable big bore kit and that I'll also have the DMV to...

Is it easy to confirm a bike has a big bore kit installed?

@amc49 Thanks, those are good points. I'll definitely push the guy a little. From the pictures I've seen it looks fairly untouched other than the exhaust and his big bore kit claims. Problem is he's got the "I know what these damn bikes are worth" attitude.... we shall see. Thanks again

Is it easy to confirm a bike has a big bore kit installed?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and excited to learn and start tinkering with a vintage bike. My question is, I'm going to check out a 76 CB this weekend that the owner claims has a big bore kit installed. Is there an easy why to confirm that it's got the big bore kit? The bike has been sitting for...
