Hi guys need some help from anyone that would like to give me some info. Well I got my bike out (K5) in the past couple days. Started it up. Let it warm up for a few. Like 10 min or so. Got on the bike went to put it into first gear while holding the clutch and the bike jumped and stalled. The clutch isn't catching. Now If I play with the gear shift er meaning gently putting into first gear it will go. Now when doing this it doesn't sound good. It grinds a little. Its only happens when going from neutral to first gear when starting out. When I'm riding its fine I can shift up to second third and so on also shift down to first no problem. It seems like only when I'm starting out. Thank you

It is normal to get a clunk when shifting into gear from neutral when the bike is not moving. Several things could cause the clutch to grab on engaugement too. If the clutch basket is getting grooves worn from the plates it wont let the plates spread far enough apart and can cause them to grab even with the clutch lever pulled. Some brands, weight and types of oil can cause the clutch to be grabby. The clutch is a wet clutch and you will always have a little bit of fluid friction and it doesnt take much to start causing the problem to be amplified.

So you think I should start off by changing to oil? What weight of oil do you guys recommend?

I've been riding bikes for close to 30 years now, this is totally normal after letting a bike sit for a bit. The oil is cold and sticky and the clutch plates are sort of, glued together. Warming it up doesn't circulate oil between the clutch plates so that won't help.

Turn the engine over a few times in gear while holding in the clutch and holding the brakes so it doesn't jump forward before starting it to break the clutch loose or if your lucky let it get rolling down the driveway before you pop it into gear.

Ill try this out. I hope it works!!!

Spaz, I just re-read your post.

I was thinking this only happened the first time you put it into gear after the bike got cold.

If this happens every single time you shift into gear from neutral, even after riding a bit, then you have a problem.

I just want to be sure.

I am having a bit of this issue myself all of a sudden too. I am having trouble finding neutral. I've had a few false neutrals at stop lights which makes me look like a complete fool to anyone watching (i.e., neutral light is on as I'm stopping at a red light, so I let go of the clutch and the bike jumps forward and stalls), and just today for the first time, a few times in second gear, I crank on the throttle and the bike does respond, but not with full force. It takes 3-5 seconds for it to actually 'catch' and give me 100% of the throttle I'm asking for, seemingly only in second gear. Then when I parked today, I absolutely could not get it in neutral for the life of me...

I have an oil change scheduled for this weekend. Got the Honda GN4 10W-30 and a new HiFlo oil filter...

Not trying to threadjack, Spaz. I thought our problems were similar.

If you engine revs and the bike takes a bit to catch up then your clutch is slipping. If I understand what you are explaining. Try to find neutral while the bike is still in motion. A lot of the 750's are hard to get into neutral if you slowed to a stop with it in gear and the clutch pulled in then tried to get it into gear. You will always have a little bit of drag in the clutch from the oil that will make it somewhat difficult to change gears if the bike is not moving. They seem to get a little worse as the motor and oil gets hotter.

What the fix for clutch slipping? can i adjust or tighten something, or am i looking at a new clutch in the near future? sounds like spaz and i are having a bit of the same problem too. as i have also got a few neutral light being on, but when i let go of the clutch, the bike umps becuase its not in neutral despite the light being on.

If the clutch is indeed slipping first thing is to check if the clutch cable is adjusted to tight. But if it has been doing it for some time then chances are the clutch plates are glazed and need replaced. You will also need to check to make sure the clutch springs are not broke when replacing the clutch. As far as the false neutral, you will need to look under the shifter side cover and inspect the linkage and see if anything is bent or broken. If everything is ok then you will have to go inside the motor as there is a problem with the shift drum or forks.

Cool, thanks. It only started doing this like 2 days ago so I am praying its a cable problem. The bike has 17,700 miles on it and I don't think the clutch has ever been done. I have an oil change to do this weekend so I'll look at the cable too. I have the manual and its proved to be quite 'easy' to read as far as clear pictures and clear mapped out steps to check and adjust everything. I'll flip to the clutch cable page while doing the oil this weekend..

My problem actually was an easy fix. My clutch cable was loose where it goes into the clutch. LOL But I didn't really get a chance to ride all that much. I took the fenders and tank off to paint it. I'm getting it back together this weekend so hope its still good. As of now I ran into some turn signal trouble. I'm hoping its just relay.

I hope to install new bullet style turn signals this weekend myself. One of the two screws on the headlight is absolutely rusted through. Like the very frist screw I try and put a screwdriver too, and its totally stuck... Funny turn signals are giving me more of a problem than the clutch..
