Were the OEM shocks gas-charged?

Honda's service manual says the OEM shocks for my 1980 K were charged with gas. I'd like to know whether, if I drill them from the bottom to replace the oil, they'd need to be gas-charged after refilling. If that's the case I do have the tools for that but would need to buy one of those fancy rubber-pellet gas bolts for each shock.

I'm also going to attempt a rebuild on a set of the FVQ shocks I got from an 81 F. And yes, there will be custom fabrication involved in that, as I have a lathe and know I'll have to make a new cap for the body. Anybody know if those ones were charged with gas too? From the cutaway diagram in the service manual, I can't see where the air gap for the gas would be.
