I've been recently looking at CB750s and got offered a great deal on a 78.

I wouldn't have picked this year out of choice but it is what it is.

If I get on well with the bike I would like to change the styling slightly so it looks more like an earlier model. Nothing too extreme.

I have read that the earlier tank fits but is shorter. Does it still bolt to the frame ok?

Also, I know the earlier seat mounts differently.. is it possible to modify the seat so it can be fixed in place?

Finally I would like to add fork gators.

Can I swap the headlight mounts from an earlier model and then fix on gators?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie.

They are basically the same frames , but , the seats can and do mount differently . Some models even hinge on the other side . I know the later tanks dont even bolt on , they sit on rubbers either side of the frame up front and have a rubber block that they sit in at the rear . It can be done though , but your biggest cost is going to be the exhausts if you want 4 into 4

Thanks for the reply mate.

Yeah I read about the hinge on the opposite side.

I can't seem to find any definitive answers though. I'm sure many people have competed it or at least tried to. The earlier tanks look such better.

It already has the newer style 4 into 4 so that will stay on there for the minute. Just keen to swap the tank and seat 😬

No shit. I almost bought a whole, running bike over the weekend because it's got a nice, stock 4 into 4 that I want to put on my Anniversary edition. I coulda got the whole thing for $2500, swapped the exhaust and turned around and sold it for what I paid for it.

Why did you decide not to?
