Hello,

I recently got a 1976 CB750F. The previous owner had removed the tachometer, and I want to put it back on as a new rider. The worm gear drive is missing and the tachometer hole is shut with a banking plug. The camshaft cover must be removed to replace it... I saw that you can partially lift the camshaft cover with the engine still in the frame, I was wondering if it was enough clearance to install this part, including the little bolt and clip that must hold it in place.
Or would it be easier to just go with an aftermarket electronic tachometer for the time being? I'd like it to be original, but I don't want to pull the engine just for a tach ..

Any help is appreciated, much thanks

I disagree somewhat with dirtdigger, as I have removed the cover without removing the engine. The most you would have to do is remove the front engine mount, the back top mount, loosen the bottom mount and the exhaust pipes need disconnected as well, which will allow the engine to drop slightly and then wiggle the cover up and off the valve train. I have removed the cover many times without removing the engine.
