When I remove the left crankcase cover for the spark advancer, I notice that the starter clutch wheel is somewhat loose; it has a slight wiggle, and the spark advancer unit can be pushed in by a millimeter or two. When it’s pressed in, I can apply a bit more force to ‘push’ the crankshaft (I assume that’s where the starter clutch is mounted) by what must be only a fraction of a millimeter. It’s not visibly moving or directly felt, but it’s enough to produce a noticeable yet subdued ‘clunking’ sound. This sound resembles an asymmetrical but consistent clunking that I both hear and feel in the foot pegs while riding.

Clunking while above idle?
