Strange electrical problem: turn signals stop blinking at times

Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?

I have an 82 cb750C, and I finished up some work to get the motor running. I take it for a ride, and the turn signals sometimes stop their blink pattern and remain stuck on.

A little testing indicates that pulling the front brake lever will pause the turn signal's blink pattern for both Left turn signal and Right turn signal. I'm not sure whether the clutch lever also has this effect, but it might have happened once.

This problem may have been occurring for a while. I haven't touched the wiring for turn signals recently. The last friend who borrowed the bike had some trouble with electronics, and had to replace one of the fuses... He didn't say that he messed with any other wires. I don't know if that sequence of events may have had a side effect on the wires for brakes/turn-signals.

Anyone have any advice on finding the cause?

Upgrade your turn signal bulbs and flasher to LED. It is related to this bike model charging system ( not so good) design plus draw from multiple bulbs...
Keep in mind, you MUST buy flasher relay for LED bulbs... LED bulbs and stock flasher will not work correctly.

How did you make out? Mine had an interesting issue with the left side not flashing. The previous owner had told me he parked it in the grass and it had fallen over. I found three wires on both turn signals and they had plugged in the wrong wire. Swapped and all is well. The flasher is very dependent on current draw. Without enough current it will not work. You could swap everything as stated above, check the bulb type, or test and replace the flasher relay.

I had other, non-motorcycle projects, swamp my spare time... So I haven't tried to fix this yet.

This makes me think I should clean up all wiring connections, and maybe replace the flasher relay.

I would say one or some of the wires for the turn signals are plugged into the wrong plugs. I had the signals do the exact same thing when I replaced some signal units on my 81. Whether they are LED or old style (which look much better) shouldn't make a difference.

Well in my case it did make difference by switching to all LED. My turn signals would blink two - three times and than turn solid. By them doing this, I know my wiring was good and condition was related to voltage supply / draw...
OP's issue sound similar to mine but than again it can be different!
