Hi.. recently bought a CB750K2 and going through it fixing up some bodgeyness previously inflicted..

Pulled the carbs and cleaned jets, bowls etc (Bowls were clean, 2 idle jets were partially blocked.)

While balancing the carbs I noticed the throttle was sticking open, and needed a push to close.

So now I've replaced the throttle cables as they were showing signs of wear at the carby end, and it is a little better, but still sticking.

Tonight I loosened off the caps on top of the slides, and throttle doesn't stick. Tighten them up (even loosely) and I'm sticking again..

Anyone come across this before? It has me a bit baffled...

Cheers, Dave

Might try running the cables another way. I found that if I ran them over the coils, same way as the previous cables, return was sluggish, and stuck w the wheel turned. Under the coils and the carbs snap closed no matter what direction the wheel is pointed.

I agree with pickle knuckles...the cables can, and often do, crate a bind in the slides. I struggled with this on my '75 CB and in looking for info, found about 15 different ways to route the cables. There is really only 1 way.

Thanks guys..

I've re-routed the cables under the coils and through the frame to the carbs, and it is a little better..

I just tried putting a little pressure on the return spring, and the carbs snapped shut instantly.

Reading here that the standard spring is a bit heavy for some people, I suspect it has been replaced with a lighter spring - it certainly looks to be smaller gauge wire (and more coils) than the standard part (https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750k2-australia_model14366/spring-throttle_16123300004/)

I think I'll replace with the standard part next..

Update - and fixed!

This really wasn't making much sense, as it was working perfectly with the old cables before I messed with it..

Ergo - I screwed something up..

AND.. I had.. The return cable at the throttle end had jumped off the nylon handle, which added friction and messed up the free cable length..

So, started again, got the throttle right first, then connected the pull cable to the carbs and adjusted to allow a tiny amount of play before the throttle cracked the carbs open..

With that done, the push cable just fell into place and everything works perfectly now..

I have to say that the whole setup is pretty crap, and now I know why everything is fly by wire :)

Thanks for the suggestions chaps, it certainly helped.

Cheers, Dave
