Sohc versus dohc+

I have 79 650 and 2 80 650's.long way from being able to get them running. Am looking to buy either 80 750f or 81 750 custom.i heard different opinions on sohc and dohc.the sohc was great.why a dohc? Was because of suzuki gs or kz 1000?

The '79 650 should be faster due to the carbs used there..............

The SOHC was 10 years old, the public (being the smart group it usually is, snicker!) demands newer even if it blows. You can't sell best of the best product once the buying public thinks 'it's old'.

Actually the world was approaching a turning point in design, 4 valve engines easier to get past emissions, the bikes like usual went there first for power then the cars followed for that and other reasons. Not DOHC so much as it was 4 valve.

Figures.they had it right,changed it anyway.I am trying to decide between 92 nighthawk and 750f

The '80 650 carbs are for emissions, they kill some power.

I am trying to just part out the 79,hope to sell the others intact,cheap.
