Just a short story as to why my signals stopped working over the winter storage. I just put in a fully charged one year old battery for spring startup and noticed that the signals were not working. Wondering what happened , I started looking into the issue. Signals would light up on the front but would not operate. I suspected a bad ground that would go throught the flasher unit or a failed relay. There were two electrical units marked OKI MKS-200 that I found mounted directly behind the battery. I thought that one may have something to do with the signals (relay) but they turned out to be CDI units that had some black gooey sticky tar stuff dripping down. I determined that these units had nothing to do with the signals , however after reinstalling them both with one 10mm bolt, I hoped that the ground would still be OK if it was a grounding point at all. After tightnening the bolt nice and snug, I thought I would try the signals just to see if they worked. To my complete surprise . . . . . . .they did. Obviously this is a ground point. I sprayed some WD on it after loosening the bolt a bit and tightened it back up. The poor ground could have been a reason for the black stuff to be running down the wire from excessive heat. Well, next morning ready to put things back together . . . .checked the signals . . .they don't work. Back to square one. Seems like a very common problem that younger people don't experience. It's the early infancy of designing things to fail discovered by accident. Anyway, I am going to find this issue and let everyone know that has the same issue what the COMMON problem is. A lot of people seem to have the same problem so we are going to find it even if I have so summon Neil. He is a friend of mine who I know will find the problem. Stay tuned . . . .
So (July 19, 2025) we found the issue of the signals not working. They would only stop working when you turn the handlebars past straight to the left. Obviously, I had to watch closely which wires moved during this. I noticed the main wire passing by the steering at the very bottom was rubbing. The location could be best described as being near someones neck near your adams apple. I turned the bars so that the signals were not working and strated to manipulate the wire and low and behold right at the kink where it was rubbing was the fault. I peeled off the rubberized thin stuff and then cut into the heavier rubber wrap. It looked like it had been repaired before in that area. I just rrepositioned the main wire bundle away from the rubbing point and the problem seemed to be solved.
Another issue I noticed was that the plastic boots over the wire connections seem to collect a lot of fine dirt inside the headlight shell if they are placed with the open end facing upwards. Over time this could cause corrosion and eventually, failure of the electrical connection. If these can be repositioned to face downwards so that the dust does not accumulate, I think this may help to avoid some future electrical issues. Hope this helps.
