Hello from another new guy! Just bought a 1978 with 15 thousand miles. My question is about the seat. I've attached three pictures, one showing the bike so you can see which seat it has and 2 other pictures showing the style of seat I would like to install.
(Even though I hope to make a few minor changes to the bike I will keep all original parts too be able to return to stock at a moment's notice!!)
I'm just not crazy about the different/two-step design of the original seat, the picture showing the 1977 seat which seems to be one level just looks better to me.
Question is how do I make this work? Are all seat pans interchangeable? Or do I have to find another seat pan off a '78 and have the single level seat installed on it?
Any help would be totally appreciated. z28518330812986ba9ddefb4def1942e03727e51b81381-1312.jpgz2851836607945185e005413ebf5a97041e9e4b7c3d3b7-5963.jpg450636652_444364868587531_617424521243247565_n.jpg

I am curious also!
I know the hinges are on the opposite side but perhaps they can be swapped?
or can the cover and foam be pulled from an older pan and reinstalled easily over the 78 pan?

The K7/K8 frame is longer behind the rear unit mounts, because it's actually based on the F series frames, not the frame used on the K0 to K6, so I doubt if you'll get the earlier type seat to fit without a lot of work.
Probably easier to get an upholsterer with experience of motorcycle seats to rework your original seat
